OPINION: When will Republican voters wake up to their own oppression?

When will Republican voters figure out how badly they’re getting screwed by Republican politicians?

 

— Desperate workers struggle with soaring rents (courtesy of Republican-donor hedge funds);
— lack of healthcare (12 GOP-controlled states still refuse to expand Medicaid for under-$15,000/year workers) is literally killing Americans;
— wages have flatlined since Reagan declared war on workers in 1981 while the merely rich have become the morbidly rich;
— Americans pay 10 times as much as Canadians for some drugs because Republicans block any effort to bring competition to that marketplace;
— at the same time Trump and his GOP buddies in the House and Senate borrowed $1.7 trillion to fund a tax giveaway to his billionaire buddies, student debt passed the $1.7 trillion mark…

 

Yet somehow the “conservative” base voters never seem to figure it out.

Most of my family are staunch conservatives.  They are from rural areas and are accustomed to being very independent and for neighbors to help neighbors.  They rely on one another much more than they do on the government.  They are pretty accepting of differences, but that does not extend to anyone outside their community.  Most are compassionate, caring people.

 

The difference starts to become stark with those that are Trump cultists.  They generally are a lot less compassionate or caring.  They are judgmental and consider their 'community' to only include other Trump followers. 

 

I totally don't understand their mentality.  They have no trouble getting food stamps, welfare and SSI payments, but don't want anyone else to get it.  They are entitled, others are not.

If more Americans would be educated and if more of them would use their brain and if more of them wouldn't be so fanatic religious, then things might be different.

But as long as they only believe and don't care about facts and are too stupid or lazy to inform themselves not much will change.

Personally I don't really care about the USA. They deserve their politicians. But the rest of the world is suffering because of them.

Given the alternative, I'm not even remotely surprised that so many reject entirely the Democrat vision. When the Democrats stop with the leftist agenda they might gain converts from the right of center voters.

I believed the GOP House candidates got 14% of the black votes. Not exactly record numbers as you try very hard to allege.

How do the republican block new drugs and make competition hard. I mean that would be really stupid to do and affect loads of people. Also unblocking would not cost taxpayer money but save it. So this point really confuses me.

Members of Congress of both parties do not work for the "people", they work for their donors. Their donors are significantly invested in, or actually are, pharmaceutical companies. The issue is NOT saving money for taxpayers, it is losing money for their donors.

Regardless of race, when people vote for a party and that party wins an election the voters have reasonable expectation that the party they voted for will govern.

Natural fit is your attempt at hyperbole. The current GOP's social conservatism is all about support for gun rights and restrictions on abortion. Unpopular amongst the blacks and hispanic.

You have an administration that is not Republican that has controlled the White House, Senate, and House for the past two years as inflation skyrocketed.  Blaming Republicans is a total misrepresentation of the facts.  
 

In terms of the expansion of Medicaid or for that matter anything else, does it never dawn on liberals that spending money no matter how noble to person thinks the cause is, CREATES INFLATION that robs everyone.  The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.  You can not run multi-trillion dollar deficits and spend your way to prosperity. 
 

What should be the objective is to enhance the economy to provide good paying jobs so people can afford their own healthcare and not placing the burden of their care on those already working and paying the freight.
