Siam Rath reported that they were contacted by a young businessman called Sathit, 35, who lives in Thawee Wattana.

He said that on Tuesday at 6pm he decided to go to a well known mall on Ngam Wong Wan road and do some fitness training after work.

He is the member of a fitness club there and a regular visitor.

As on other occasions he took off all his valuables for his fitness session and enclosed them in his bag along with clothes.

These were placed in a sturdy looking locker.

After two hours when he came back to retrieve his belongings everything was gone.

A diamond encrusted Rolex, amulet, diamond ring, diamond bracelet, gold necklace all gone.

Ten million baht value in total.

Initial forensics have shown that the lock was not forced and a spare key was probably used.

The club has CCTV everywhere - except pointing at the lockers.

Muang Nonthaburi police are investigating.

Did your uncle ever consider the investment aspect of his Timex, i.e. none, versus the future value of Rolex watches?   Many do and the chances of a Rolex "breaking" are fairly remote.

Wonder if his stuff was insured.

If so, no problem. If not, tough.

I had a contractor show up w/10 baht of gold on his neck and 10 baht of gold on his wrist. I knew it wasn't going to work out. And it didn't.

Why people have such expensive jewelry and watches amazes me. My uncle was a very wealthy farmer and only had a cheap Timex watch. He said he'd wear it for a few years and when it stopped working he'd buy another of the same. This is a guy who could have afforded a Rolex but had too much common sense for that. Why have expensive things that don't do anything better than a far cheaper item. If a Rolex breaks you spend a great deal of money to have it fixed. If a Timex breaks you toss it out and buy another for $50. They both do the same thing. I guess "status" and looking cool to some is more important.

Most lockers are in the changing rooms. So i kinda understand why they dont want cctv there.

But what a tool to take so much bling with him.

There are few things in life as tacky, and classless as a diamond encrusted watch. Yikes. It ranks right up there with a Bentley, in terms of desperation. Look at me. See me. Acknowledge me. Please. I am really somebody.

The amulet would have been the most valuable , prevents death by bullet ,

when he should have also had the non theft amulet ....????

Wow.  The mall is so "well-known" we need not even be told which one it is.

Modern media.  So sensitive.

I see Rolex watches as an investment item, just asked fatso who "borrowed" 24 high end watches from his deceased friend, suffice to say, I would never wear one, although I did for a mate who purchased it back home duty free and as I was returning a week later he asked if I could take back with me.

It cost him 450,000 baht and he didn't want to have to pay the duty if they pulled him up with it on his possession.

I did return it to him, but not before advising him that all care would be taken but no responsibility accepted, to which he signed off on in front of a witness.

I've never seen anybody wearing USD $300,000 in jewelry.

Is that a sissy lapdog in the photo? Wish that had been stolen too from the fitness boy.

Can buy a top notch Rolex in Laos for 600 baht. Losing that is no big deal.

I know of a client of mine in his mid 70's, he is worth in excess of a hundred million all day long, and one day I saw he had a Rolex on with the glass cracked, and I said to him why don't you change the glass, to which he replied, this was my fathers watch, he gave it to me in 1960 and I just wear it to remind me of him.

He is not tight with his money, but a good 7 years later when I saw him again, I said, what happen to your Rolex, he said, I lost it, I said oh no, he said, yeh, starting to lose things in my old age, to which I said, you can always buy another. To which he replied, are you serious, I wouldn't throw my money away on a watch, I can tell the time by looking at my mobile, if I lose my mobile, it's cheaper to replace than a Rolex.

It's called style, the love of beautiful things......if you can afford it and have good taste why not. It doesn't surprise me that a farmer would wear a Timex, wealthy or not.

That means nothing, quite a few people do.
