David Carrick

The Met Police is investigating 1,000 sexual and domestic abuse claims involving about 800 of its officers, the commissioner has said.

It comes after PC David Carrick pleaded guilty to 49 offences, including dozens of rapes.

Sir Mark Rowley announced all 45,000 Met officers and staff would be rechecked for previously missed offending.

It's my theory that uniforms and the position of authority/power that comes with them can enable and exacerbate the behaviour of certain kinds of people. The police and the military being prime examples. (Mostly good people though, a small minority that are bad in this way).

Corruption, violence and abuse of authority by Met Officers has been the stuff of numerous police TV series for decades.

For almost as long there have been calls to reform the Met.

It might be assumed that the Met couldn’t actually shock anyone with any news of criminality and abuse by its officers.

Then comes Carrick and perhaps as many as 800 other twisted cops.

It’s past time the Met was reformed from to to bottom, it’s simply not fit for service.
