There is actually a law that foreigners here need to be in possession of their passport at all times.  I carry a photocopy of it. Many retirees

There is no such law.

The requirement is for photo ID.

In this case its likely the guys wallet was stolen after he collapsed.

Heart failure, happens a lot, come suddenly and you're out...

Seems odd to me, having had three MIs, but it sure seems to happen a lot. I could be next, I guess, with my history.

Chances are he was ignoring that “heartburn”, especially if he’d been drinking.
If your body is telling you something, listen to it.

I carry a photo copy of my Passport, My international drivers license and

some other things in my wallet. I have heard of a few married tourists who do not

want their wives knowing where they went, leave their passports and the foolish

leave all their ID back at the place they are staying. Not sure what Asian

tourists do.

You are correct.  It is not stipulated to be just a passport.  My bad.

With the greatest respect, passport I understand but do you not carry a wallet that may contain in addition to your money:-

Your name/address (in case lost or stolen)

A bank card

Covid-19 vaccination record (here in Cambodia we get a plastic card with URN-QR code)

Club membership card

MAKRO or other supermarket card and so on....?

I always have my wallet with me when I go out.

I take cash out during the day if I need it and leave cards in safe.

Kept my Covid Cert on phone when I needed it. No supermarket cards and never will have them. I only carry cash in my wallet. I have never lost a wallet and if I did I wouldn't expect to get the cash back.

Probably had a heart attack after they gave him the bill.
