Daily News Thai Caption: Fraudulent vouchers (Voucher Thip)

Daily News reported on the arrest of a woman who allegedly defrauded potential tourists by offering fraudulent vouchers for sale for money off at resorts, pool villas, condos and restaurants in Pattaya.

The vouchers - known as Voucher Thip in Thai - were worthless and caused losses of 10 million baht.

Jutharat, 40, was picked up in Pathum Thani by police known by the "commando" moniker.

She was named in two warrants issued last September in Samut Sakhon and Pattaya for embezzlement and non-payment of wages as an employer.

She denies everything.

The media said that along with others she set up a tourism promotion company to sell the vouchers.

They had not contacted any of the operators where the vouchers could be used - it was a bare faced con.

In a separate part of the charges against her it is alleged that 124 people who applied to work in admin and management positions in pool villas, condos and resorts received no money for their work.
