Jatuporn: Fears major crisis if Thaksin returns, says he should "go to jail with good grace"

Former Pheu Thai party MP and political activist for the UDD Jatuporn Prompan said that if Thaksin Shinawatra comes back he should go to jail with good grace.

 

Though he can't see that happening, reported Siam Rath.

 

He was commenting on Facebook on the "Thailand First" page after the former MP now fugitive indicated that a return to Thailand could be imminent. 

 

Jatuporn fears the country could be thrown into a crisis along the lines of October 6th 1976.

 

Coming back right away would be better than leaving it to election time, though, when his presence would cause even further confusion.

 

He pointed out that the court's decision against him was clear and final and going to jail was his only option.

 

Meanwhile DPM Wissanu Krea-ngam said yesterday that Thaksin must face legal proceedings when he comes back.

 

Thaksin fled Thailand in 2008 shortly before he was convicted by the Supreme Court for abuse of his authority in connection with a Ratchadaphisek (Bangkok) land deal.

 

The idea of offering amnesties for political players has resurfaced recently as a fresh General Election approaches.

 

But there would be no time in the life of the present parliament to pass any bills in relation to an amnesty so it remains something that is just up for debate.

I think this is just about getting press coverage for Thaksin daily. Its that tactic of getting everyone used to the idea that he is/may/will come back so the populous gets used to it and then lo and behold suddenly its fact and he is back.

 

This one will just appease some of the middle ground right wingers to be used to the idea of his return with strings.

Thaksin’s arrival back in Thailand is going to be bigger than The Beatles.

Massive outpourings of affection and much much smaller, but no less intense, sprinklings of hatred.

Thaksin here before the election, Pheu Thai wins 400 seats.

Thaksin here at any time, Prayuth checks himself into an asylum.

Betting that his return would create a movement to reverse the case against him (after all it was pushed through by the military coup leaders) and start jockeying again for a partnership.

The courts would be in a tough position. He is the nation's most popular (former) politician and trying to arrest him could lead to riots. 

He could get the same treatment as Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and be shot on arrival.

In a way I agree with Jatuporn.

 

However I do believe that he should be given a retrial with a neutral and completely unbiased judge and justice department.

 

At he same time ALL of the surviving generals of ALL the military coups (and their cohorts) should go on trial, charged with treason and overthrowing legally elected governments.

 

That would be a way towards the democracy that is so desperately needed in Thailand.

But UDD was not active at all since the coup in 2014. 
Jatuporn switched politically to military side a long time ago, at least around elections in 2019 (he supported in chiang mai a candidate running against pheu thai). 
In 2021 he joined with the core yellow shirts a campaign to oust Prayuth. Possibly they were just acting for Prawit (around that time an open conflict within junta started, culminating in censure debate in september 2021, when Thammanat tried to backstab Prayuth). 
 

Jatuporn is a royalist, for a long time he dons "904" hair style, him mentioning october 1976 student massacre shows, that he is on establishment side. His statement do  support such massacre in the future against opposition, and especially student and youth pro-democracy movement. 
 

As much as pro-democracy movement hates Thaksin, it would be them on the streets opposing any authoritarian moves by the military and it would be them jailed and killed. 
 

But I think Thaksin wont dare to come back yet and he is teasing Prayuth, who is foaming at his mouth

You can't reverse a case which has been decided by the supreme court.

Constitutions are regularly reversed.

The case can be reversed / dismissed / thrown out with ease.

Thaksin is a wanted criminal. Is that so difficult for you to understand?

And if the police try to arrest a criminal and the criminal runs away then police have the right to shoot him, after they warn him.

And let's not forget that Thaksin basically ordered the killing of thousands of drug suspects - without any evidence and no judge. So he should be able to understand the concept of targeting criminals. But of course he thinks he is different.

Thaksin can travel the world free as a bird because interpol don’t pursue bogus charges. Is that so difficult for you to understand? You appear to know very little about the “drug war”. Why is there not, nor has there ever been any charges filed against Thaksin for the “drug war”?
