Since starting the MA in Thai Studies at Chula University, my understanding and interest in Buddhism has increased - primarily because of the excellent teaching by the lecturers. As a result, I was trawling the internet for resources on Buddhism and found this MA course which can be studied 'online', as well as by attendance at the university.

MA in Buddhist Studies

(I hope that posting this link is ok by TV rules....)

I'd be interested to hear what other TV members think of this course - either from previous knowledge of it or from reading the details on the website. (I have time on my hands and might follow this course...)

(Link corrected...)

So far, I think the link doesn't work. A corrected link is: http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/buddhist/

In the absence of any info other than what's on the website, seems a reasonable gamble. It's broken down into three parts over three years. If you don't like it after completing two semesters, then drop, and accept the certificate. Complete a second year, and you get the "diploma" (not sure what that would be after two years of study). If you still think it's of value, go for the third year.

The price is reasonable, as far as international Internet learning programs from the UK are concerned. Essentially, 2,040 pounds per year. 1,020 pounds per semester, plus the cost of the books (looks like a heavy reading list).

One concern could be fluxuations in the exchange rate over the course of the program. I expect the US dollar to compete with the Laotian Kip before too long, so it'd be a real worry for me...
