Well, agree.

"Instead of spending $10,000 to $15,000 for a trained Belgian [Malinois] or GSD [German Shepherd], they are now taking pit bulls from shelters and training them, and they are proving themselves to be amazing police and military K9s."

Dogs are selected from shelter Austin Pets Alive! and trained by Universal K9, before being placed in police departments around the country at no charge.

The New York-based Animal Farm Foundation provides a sponsorship to Universal K9 to contribute to the cost of the training. Since the program started two years ago, 11 pit bulls have been placed with police departments.

All for the sake of saving money. 11 Pit Bulls were able to be trained. So obviously, some are trainable.

The problem is to eliminate those Pit Bulls that have the instinct of biting and shaking whatever they were able to grab, and render someone handicapped.

Does not happen with German Shepherds. Which simply bite, and hold, without causing damage.

So how could these 11 Pit Bulls, saved from euthanasia perhaps, compensate for all these people, many of which children, were injured by so many Pit Bulls.

Just look at the pictures of injured people. from Pit Bull compared to German Shepherds.

I hope it does not happen to members of your family.

You have no idea about the power of a bite, most people bitten by a PSD

have to go to the hospital before going to jail.

They can do a of of damage

Should we just stop at Pit Bulls?

Maybe the reason  as to why people have problems with Pit Bulls?

Pit Bulls are the most abused dogs in the world.

In addition to thousands of Pit Bulls mistreated and abused by their owners, many of them die every year in dogfighting rings.

Above a must read.

Other dogs that show more aggression than Pit Bulls include the tiny Yorkshire Terriers (83.7% pass rate), Corgis (79.6%), and Chihuahuas (69.6%).

and the bite strength of a terrier or chuahauas is not even in same league as a pit bull...getting bitten by a litle lapdog sure can hurt but the chances are excellent that it will not be fatal..

.seems you missed the point is not so much that you might get bitten it is that with a pit they do not just nip and run...they want to rip your throat or guts out and often the only way to get them to let go is to shoot them...one good punch to a terrier and you win...not so with pit bull attacks...

What a terrible end. A brave man.

What can you say about a dog that has a long history of attacking.

Ignorant owners caging up an animal, or perhaps caging because as it matured it simply became obvious it was dangerous and they had nowhere to go to seek training and behaviour amendment.

I imagine zero socialisation with other animals or people as the article seems to hint at, indicate.

ALL dogs have the capacity to bite. Some because of their breeding are particularly dangerous and bred specifically as specialist killing dogs from past centuries (bear killing).

We have dogs, all socialised and well trained, and not bred, designed with a 'strong predation instinct' to hunt and kill.

I love animals, but say put this animal down quietly with the 2 needles immediately!

I think some people seem to forget that the ancestor of the domestic dog is the wolf.  Sometimes they revert to type.

Yep, even the late Queen Elizabeth II's corgis were known for biting people. ????

I know many Thais that train their dogs to attach strangers...

There you go,you mean "attack" strangers?

How do they do that?Teaching aggression without control is a recipe

for disaster.

I can guarantee you there are not many qualified trainers in Thailand.

I don't think the word is 'train'. I think the Thais just 'ignore' their dogs when attacking strangers as it serves a purpose and sends a message to potential burglars.

I think that he's just "exaggerating", to use a kinder word than I want to.   I don't think that many foreigners really know "many Thais" and the chances that "many" of those Thais that they do know train their dogs that way stretches the bounds of credibility.  Unless he's a member of a dog club!
