BANGKOK (NNT) - Vice-President of Mahanakorn University of Technology Assoc Prof Sompop Purivigraipong has been approved to become the seventh member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

The Senate approved the nomination of Assoc Prof Sompop with 197 votes in favor, nine against and five abstentions during a closed meeting on February 14. His appointment will be submitted for royal approval.

Assoc Prof Sompop graduated from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) with a bachelor’s degree in applied physics and a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He holds a doctorate in satellite engineering from Surrey Space Center of the University of Surrey.

Additionally, Assoc Prof Sompop served as the rector of Gistda Academy from August 2014 to January 2016 and was an adviser for the THEOS-2 project from February 2016 to July 2017, as well as a member of a panel on satellite affairs under the NBTC from May to November 2022.

Assoc Prof Sompop was nominated from among 16 candidates by the Senate’s selection committee in December of last year. He will be the seventh member of the NTBC board, following five members who began their terms in April of last year, with the sixth taking office in October 2022.
