Two brave monks at a temple in Noen Phra, Rayong, have been honored for their bravery after they came to the rescue of a female grocer who was being held at knifepoint opposite the temple of Wat Khot Hin.

Phra Khwanmuang and Phra Somsri vaulted a three meter high wall and confronted the assailant who ran off after he got Samnao in a head lock.

The case played out online and on many news outlets including national TV in Thailand.

Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong said at RTP HQ in Bangkok that the monks were a fine example to society.

RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat had no hesitation in determining that they merited an award under the police's "Tham Dee Mee Rangwan" - "Do Good Get a Reward" scheme.

Local cops in Rayong on Thailand's eastern seaboard handed out the awards and cash donations of 20,000 baht to the two monks.

Siam Rath had no update on the hunt for the man who attacked the grocer.

"cash donations of 20,000 baht to the two monks." - maybe the "donations" were given to the Abbot for "safekeeping"
