Lao Vendor Faces Legal Action After Livestream Tirade Against Thais Goes Viral
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A Lao woman selling street food in Kamphaeng Phet has come under fire after a video clip of her insulting Thai people went viral on social media. The woman, identified as 38-year-old Mrs Nuch, was swiftly visited by Thai immigration officers and employment authorities following the backlash. The controversy began when a video surfaced of Mrs Nuch, who runs a grilled sausage stall near Phran Kratai Hospital, angrily criticising Thais during a TikTok livestream. In the video, she declared that she had built her own business and had never begged for money, stating, “Thailand is not pure, it produces beggars.” The clip quickly drew outrage from netizens across Thailand. Facing mounting criticism, she later deleted the video. Officials from the Kamphaeng Phet Provincial Employment Office, in coordination with Immigration Police, launched an investigation and located Mrs Nuch at her stall. During questioning, she admitted to being the woman in the clip. She explained that she had entered Thailand from Laos and is married to a Thai man. After initially working in Si Sa Ket, she moved to Kamphaeng Phet, where her husband now works for a private company. She began selling sausages to earn extra income to support their child. Regarding the viral video, Mrs Nuch said she had been watching a fellow Lao citizen’s livestream on TikTok when a Thai viewer commented, calling Lao people “cowards”. She noted that the word “coward” is highly offensive in Lao culture, and it caused her to lose her temper and respond emotionally during her own livestream. Mrs Nuch acknowledged that her words were harsh and expressed regret over her comment branding Thais as beggars. She explained her intention was not to insult the entire country, but rather to highlight the hypocrisy of criticising Lao people while Thailand itself still faces social issues such as poverty. She offered a public apology, saying she had lived in Thailand since the age of 15 and deeply appreciated the opportunities the country had given her. Authorities have since charged Mrs Nuch with working outside the scope of her legal employment status as a foreign national. She has been handed over to investigators at Phran Kratai Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-04-19 -

Under control. Grocery prices doubled, maybe tripled, from 2020. You live here, and you say under control. 100k for one bitcoin, 3500 for gold. Homelessness skyrocketed. But everything is under control -
