Popular Post sidjameson
Many would be expats worry about this topic. I thought it would be interesting for members to share. As for me, Ive been a part time resident and I found my friends slowly and just by staying longer term in guesthouses. I fear I would have struggled socially if I had been renting a house in a city. How about you? 1 3 1

Popular Post OneMoreFarang
a) Work: I met customers and co-workers. I think that is the best way, because we spend time with these people and after spending weeks with them, we get a pretty good idea how compatible we are. b) Find a Thai girlfriend and socialize with her friends, go to places which she knows already, discover new places, learn Thai, etc. c) After I lived in Thailand for some time my gf and I decided to learn and play pool. We went often to the same pool hall and obviously we meet other "players". Later we went regularly to the same pub with pool tables. Lots of regulars, lots of opportunities. We could have joined local tournaments and meet even more people. I guess without gf I would have done that. If I would now be new in a location and without work, I would probably find a nice place to play pool and meet people. Obviously it takes time. But spending time with something which we like and at the same time meeting new people is a good start. 4

Agree. Have a few long time friends here but seldom meet up as we live in different parts of the country. I am never bored so don't need any kind of social life and make no effort to get one. Happily married and content in a rural village , far from the tourist crowds. 7 1

I'm tired of policing my thoughts for the benefit of others. I used to be an independent. Republicans are in power, I go with left-leaning media. And vice versa. Trump destroyed that. Left-leaning media become, to my point-of-view, hysterical. Unwatchable. Always being lectured to. And everybody is so bitterly polarized these days. Why bother? What am I going to change? The brilliant thing about Thais is that, I don't know Thai, and most of them don't know enough English to take issue with anything I might say. I am blessed to have spent my life on the computer, I think. It is as engaging a life as I could ever hope for. I can sit here and gaze out my balcony at the beach below, and then go back to whatever I'm doing on the computer, and almost always when I go to bed I feel the day is well spent. 5 1 1

I never understood this attitude... those who come here and want to avoid all other foreigners just seems strange... I don’t mean that people ‘should be friends and socialise with other foreigners just because they are foreigners or from the same country etc.... But to avoid a ‘specific group of people’ because of some ingrained idea or reasoning seems extremely strange to me... I’m left wondering what personality issues these types of characters may have that they are unable to get along with people from their own cultures. I’ve met some utter tools from western nations, my home country, and also from Thailand... I have also made some excellent friends from many different western nations, my home country and also Thailand - some of them have become long term close friends for over 20 years now. The suggestion from anyone that they ‘don’t want to mix with Thai’s’ or ‘don’t want to mix with other foreigners’ kind of rings an alarm bell... 7

The one and only time I attempted to join a farang social club ended when I was completely ignored by the members when I visited on a club day.

Reminds me of my last year in LOS. I was living in an hotel off Loi Kroh in Chiang Mai. My day consisted of Thai Visa forum, tv news channels ( mainly Fox as it was the most entertaining ), tv movies and cheap DVDs from local market. I did try the local bar beer group, but it was too boring to bother with. The most exciting thing I did was going to the mall to see a movie. All in all, a quiet, uneventful life- bliss.

You seem overly concerned about farangs that don't conform to your druthers. It's their concern if they don't want to associate with farangs, and you don't get to tell anyone what to do. Do whatever you want to do and let others do likewise- you'll feel better for it.

Here were my OBVIOUS questions, so pay attention I'll write slow: 1. Why come on this forum just to be negative and tell us you don't like farangs. That makes no sense!!!! 2. I'm making them ask themselves the question, "Why am I (they) screaming for attention?" Seems like they actually want many farang friends and can't handle it. 3. I'm having them ask themselves, "Is this is a normal post? Oh, no. So, why am I (them) posting such negativity????" Obviously, they are miserable. So then I do my hyperbole and make fun at them as some don't seem to get it!!!!
