Chinese Embassy vows to protect Chinese nationals amid online claims of security risks

The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok has vowed to protect Chinese nationals in Thailand, amid social media reports of alleged security risks to visiting Chinese tourists, according to a Chinese media report.

 

The China Media Group (CMG) quoted the Chinese Embassy as reaffirming that Thailand is a friendly neighbour.

 

CMG said it is the first time that Chinese authorities have commented on these social media reports originating in China.

 

“The embassy in Thailand maintains close communication and contact with the Thai tourism security authorities and will, as always, spare no effort to protect the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Thailand,” the embassy said, according to CMG.

 

The embassy said that it is aware of videos on social media platforms showing the “serious safety risks” of traveling to Thailand, as well as the clarifications from the Thai government and responsible authorities.

 

CMG said some recent media reports and social media posts have raised security concerns, citing cases of missing persons, telecom fraud and smuggling in Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand.

Mostly Chinese need protecting from fellow nationals.

Thailand is a proud and independent nation, surely what happens here should be under Thai control, why is the Chinese embassy saying it will protect Chinese tourists here? Is this the thin edge of the wedge?

The function of an Embassy is surely  to assist  citizens who travel to or live in the host country. Many pay this little more than lip service sadly.

Wonder when China will decide to protect their nationals who live in China?  The CCP has murdered more Chinese than any other country.

This is the second time I've read this topic.  Chinese people freaking out due to online rumors that Thailand isn't safe.  Oh well.  I sort of like it for the three years where the tourist disappeared.  Chiang Mai was nice a quiet.  Ok - stay home.
Heck, it's safer here than back in many of the cities in the US.
