I am trying to do this, but can't see the 'table of contents' option under the 'Insert' menu.

 

When I've Googled it, it says I must have headings formatted within the document to choose the 'table of contents' option, which I do. But I still can't see the option to insert 'table of contents'.

 

Can anyone help?

I never use it but seems you add the paragraph headings to update the table of contents.  The option appears as standard at the bottom of my 'Insert' menu with a new unedited document as below;
