TWO Russian teenagers who joined a gang of nearly 30 youths in an attack on a rival youth at a Pattaya market around 5 a.m. this morning (Apr. 22) have been arrested, TV Channel 7 said.

 

Shopkeepers fled in panic after the youths rode up on their motorcycles and stormed the market in search of their rival Mr. Noi (assumed name), 17, who works at a fruit stall there. He too dashed out of the market but was caught by gang members who bashed him up including using a brick to hit his head. After that they fled in different directions.

 

Pol. Col. Thanapong Phothi, superintendent of Pattaya City police station, and his team went to investigate and upon going through the surveillance camera clips spotted the two unidentified Russian teenagers, one 17 years old and the other 19, joining the gang led by Mr. Wichit (surname withheld), 22 , in this attack.

How many cops were there on hand? Are they expected to catch all of them? Who would you pick to catch first? The Russians or the locals?

Yes, it come over badly that so much focus has been made on 2 foreigners in the gang of thugs. They seem to know the gang leader and he likely is more deserving of police attention.

Maybe they could re-distribute the 7 cops for going after chinese tourists for failing to declare their whereabouts to immigration to deal violent crime ?

Personally I am happy they are checking on houses with often young Chinese staying for extended periods. 

A better question may be how/why these 2 Russian "lads" joined up with a Thai gang unless they have lived here for a long time?

bear in mind, we are in the land of smiles... even though two of the 32 hooligans were not thai nationals

I'd like to hear the Russians story, how or why they got involved. Maybe getting some training in before going home.

30 onto 1 sounds like the usual thai male idea of a fair fight so they dont lose face when they have the crap kicked out of them, surprised they only used a brick and not machetes and guns to make sure they couldnt lose just as an extra precaution of course, we all know how brave and upstanding some thai males are when it comes to a fight

If these two Russians are unidentified, how do the police know their ages ?

From my observations, I used to think the worst foreigners in Thailand were the Brits, now I am beginning to wonder.

Years back a property agent in Pattaya, without consulting me, rented my luxury house at Jomtien to a Russian family.

 

Agent didn't tell me until 90 days after the Russian family moved in (Father, mother, 2 teenage girls, 1 teenage boy and 2 more quite young kids).

 

I told the agent to arrange an immediate inspection, Russian man refused. Agent was then appraoched by the next door neighbor to tell the russians they cannot plug into the neighbors internet or electrcity service. 

 

Agent called the police, they went with the agent to do an inspection, found a lot of damage, police called their snr. 

 

Police snr consiscated all their documents and told them they would be deported but only afer all the damage had been repaired and they provided receipts with addresses and phone numbers of person/company who had done the repairs

 

All done, snr cop told the Russian "Be here tomorrow morning at 7:00 am with your luggage and with air tickets to depart Thailand same morning, and 10,000Baht cash which will be passed to the owner of the property. If you don't come tomorrow morning I will lay several charges including overstay".

 

The next day, at the request of the police snr officer I went to Pattaya police station and he quickly passed over the 10,000Baht. No suggestion at all of a cut for the police. He also mentined there had been many similar incidents in Pattaya in the recent past involving Russian tenants.
