Fatal Car Accident in Chonburi: Three Passengers Killed as Speeding Sedan Collides with Electrical Pole

On May 10, 2023, Lt. Col. Anupong Dokmai, the Deputy Chief of the Samet Police Station in Chonburi Province, received a distressing report of a fatal car accident.

 

The accident involved a sports car that collided with an electrical pole on Sukhumvit Road, heading towards Bangsaen in Moo 5, Huay Kapi Subdistrict, Mueang District, reported INN.

 

Upon reaching the site, the Trirat Foundation's rescue team found a Honda City sedan that had hit the pole, resulting in three fatalities. The deceased individuals were identified as 31-year-old Mr. Nattawut, 31-year-old Ms. Kanda, and 20-year-old Mr. Natthapol.

 

During their inspection of the sedan, the rescue team found the driver, 22-year-old Mr. Suvit, with severe injuries.

 

The team provided him with immediate first aid before taking him to Burapha University Hospital for further medical attention.

 

Eyewitnesses reported that the sports car was speeding and had lost control before colliding with the electrical pole.

 

The impact was so intense that the passengers were thrown out of the vehicle. The driver was found unconscious and was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

 

At present, police officers are studying the CCTV footage to determine the cause of the accident in greater detail. Once the investigation is complete, appropriate legal measures will be taken against the driver.

What legal measures might they be?

Let me guess. 10 years in prison? No chance.

2 million baht compensation paid to the families? No chance.

Being prosecuted by the Thai legal system? No chance.

Shave your head and become a monk for a week then carry on with your life like nothing ever happened? Check ✔️

 

As long the mentally of "accidents happen and no one is ever to blame" prevails then the power poles will continue to claim victims of a regular basis. This would be so easy to fix if the authorities had the balls.

Probably not, but if seatbelts were secured then subsequent damage to the car could have resulted in the mountings becoming detached.

 

Unless I'm missing something, the car must have spun at high speed and basically reversed into the pole. Little damage to the front and roof of car clearly evidences this.

Tends to happen when you don't wear seatbelts.  Getting ejected out of the window on impact isn't that uncommon. "Live and learn" ends up as "Die and learn", well, for those left to learn that is.  And my guess is that the majority of Thai drivers don't wear them.

Hard to see here with  the well tinted glass.... often see the glow of a telephone the driver is using though.
