In the early hours of May 11, 2023, Muang Pattaya Police Station received a call reporting a disturbance on Walking Street, a popular tourist spot in South Pattaya, Nong Prue Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.

Responding quickly to the call, officers arrived on the scene accompanied by rescue personnel from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan, Pattaya City.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a South African tourist, 40-year-old Mr. John (full name withheld), suffering from a head injury, reported 77kaoded.

Blood was streaming down his face from a fractured forehead. Immediate first aid was administered on the scene before he was transported to Pattaya City Police Station for further questioning.

A group of security guards from the XS Go-Go bar were also present, awaiting their turn to provide statements to the police.

According to the guards, the altercation began when Mr. John allegedly refused to settle his bar tab of 9,470 baht. He was reported to have verbally abused the staff, crumpled the bill, and thrown it at them.

When the situation escalated, the guards intervened, and in the ensuing struggle, Mr. Viljoen fell, hitting his head on the edge of some stairs.

Despite his injury, Mr. John resisted assistance at the Pattaya City Police Station and removed his bandages.

He eventually agreed to pay the outstanding bill.

As for the exact circumstances leading to his injury, authorities are planning to review CCTV footage to ensure a fair and thorough investigation for all parties involved.

Ring the bell? Always best to pay as you go or get receipts.

So this is how I think it went, when he came at bar he realized that how hansum he is as all the innocent bar girls were drooling on his oratory skills and smart jokes. Once the show finished he had to play for the act, which he did after blowing a hole through his skull…

Bravo ????

Back in my drinking days, I was thrown in the drunk tank at Thong Lor PD for refusing to bay my bar bill.

I was in a QPA bar (Soi22) and had actually rang the bell 2 times.

The bill was around 9,000 Baht, which I refused to pay.

The police were called and the cashier explained to the police that I had rang the bell 2 times and as such I had to buy drinks for everyone in the bar, hence the high bar bill.

I tried to explain to Mr. Plod that I believed that the bill was a tad on the high side, as myself the cashier were the only people in the bar.

They still took me to the station and held me until I accepted to pay the bill, even though the bill was very obviously padded.

I later learned that the bar was owned by the wife of one of the top policemen at Thong Lor station. ????

Happened to someone I know.

As soon as he rang the bell, about 20 ladies marched down the stairs from the second floor..........with drink in hand

A nephew of mine not long ago in Phuket was cajoled into playing some sort of games with the girls where when he lost, he'd buy a drink to 2-3 girls there and before long the tab came to 5,000 baht which he paid and left the bar feeling that he's been had.

What else would he have expected to happen after he rings the bell to buy the staff a drink each?

Depending on the bar, it could be a drink for everyone in the bar????

I ring bells at temples. All free. One monk ran out once said don't do it. Pray time.

You think he was aware of the 20 ladies upstairs, which were invisible from downstairs?

The guy must be an idiot though. These bars are desperate for money.

Its not really that large a tab, and it is easy to let the bill get out of control when you are surrounded by women beffing for bar drinks that cost 2-3 times the amount of a beer.

It happens in the beer bars in bangkok all the time.

Forgetting that lady drinks cost twice what you are drinking and not saying no to every drink request will eventully make your head bleed.

Pay as you go is the rule at every bar in other countries.  Thailand bars should learn this simple rule.  You buy food from street vendor, you pay before you get the food.  You buy fruit shake at a street vendor you pay before you get the drink.  How hard is it to collect the money when it is actually spent?  So strange to me.

If you ring the bell the tab is whatever they say it is.....You have zero say in what the bill should be...

So NEVER ring the bell......

Pattaya – A South African man has sustained head injuries after he allegedly refused to pay a bill at a gogo bar, getting into a chaotic dispute with security guards on Pattaya’s Walking Street.

The Pattaya City Police were notified of the incident at 1:30 A.M. on Wednesday (May 10th). Police, emergency responders, and the Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find MR. JOHN PAUL VILJOEN, 40, a South African national. He had sustained head injuries and was bleeding.

A group of security guards at the XS a Go Go nearby told Pattaya Police that Mr. VILJOEN had refused to pay for his drinks and had an outstanding bill of 9,470 baht.

Mr. Viljoen became increasingly angry over his bill, crumpling it up and throwing it at one of the guards and trying to force his way out of the gogo, with security attempting to stop him and the two parties getting into a scuffle, said the guards.

You seem to have a very strange way of buying food and drinks.  Wherever I order those items, the order is requested, the food or drink is prepared and handed to me, then I give the vendor the money.  I've never come across any vendor that demanded money up front.

Yet he agreed to pay it and the (tourist) police did not attempt to mediate, something that they tend to do when it is clear that the bill has been padded?
