Thousands of teachers in deep South want transfers

Saturday 7 July 2007 09:33:50 AM (GMT+7:00)

BANGKOK, July 7 (TNA) - An overall lack of incentives plus concerns for their personal security has led several thousand schoolteachers in Thailand's three troubled southernmost provinces to initiate seeking transfers to posts elsewhere in the country, a senior teacher said Friday.

Narathiwat Teachers Federation president Sa-nguan Intharak said teacher representatives wanted to discuss with Prime Minister Gen. Surayud Chulanont next Wednesday when he travels to the deep South and inform him of their hardships as insurgents have stepped up attacks on school teachers in recent months.
