Thailand’s experiment with weed goes up in smoke

After four years of support from the ruling coalition government, Thailand is expected to vote against the decriminalisation of marijuana in Sunday’s general election. The current free-for-all and weed shops lining the busy tourist streets appears unlikely to continue in the months after the election and a new parliament is settled.

Return of ex-PM Thaksin may still leave Prayut with a test even if he loses this Sunday’s election
by Joseph O' Connor

image.jpeg

General Prayut Chan ocha (right) was offhand and dismissive this week after hearing about Thaksin’s plans to return home to Thailand by July 26th next. The ousted ex-Prime Minister vowed to return home and put himself in the hands of the justice system and General Prayut’s government. The situation, if it comes to pass, would represent a test for the sitting Prime Minister even if he loses next Sunday’s General Election.

The return of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on or before July 26th next, his 74th birthday, would be a sensational and historic moment for Thailand.
