Medical visa - Thai

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got the 90 day or 1yr medical visa?

How difficult is it?

Do I need a hospital letter, or just show medical receipts?

I'm already in Thailand, getting cancer treatment, and flying would be very difficult, but the only way - at this point - to get another tourist visa.

Any information appreciated.

Thanks

Do they often reject medical visa requests?
Should they be made from outside Thailand?

Yes, they are very sceptical of applications for medical extensions, and usually deny applications if you are not in hospital. Immigration must be convinced that it is impossible for you to travel (by either air or land).

If you have a pre-planned program of treatment at a major hospital/clinic, it is possible to apply for a medical tourism visa or (sometimes) a Non Immigrant O visa at a consulate outside Thailand. This is fairly easy to get with the right documentation.

I had emergency surgery here and a Bumrungrad nurse was dispatched with me to immigration where my visa was quickly sorted out. I got 30 days.

What do you mean "visa was sorted out. I got 30 days.

What was your status in Thailand when you had surgery?

Meaning did you have tourist visa or visa exempt etc

My tourist visa had run out while convalescing (the day after the surgery).

I was on a plain ol' 30 day tourist visa on arrival. I got a plain ol' 30 day extension.

The only noteworthy part of this story is that the hospital helped me do it.

In fact, they informed me that I was already on overstay (which was forgiven) the day after my visa expired.

Wasn't being smart when asked re your circumstances.

Fact is you were had visa exempt entry and the hospital provided support and you were given standard 30 day extension.

Short overstay not subject to a fine.

That is quite different to folk requiring ongoing treatment.

Personally don't imagine the OP will have much joy.

What about palliative care?

Has anyone got a medical visa to stay in Thailand for palliative, end of life, care?

I doubt it. Firstly, Thailand isn't great for palliative care. Secondly, why would someone in this situation even care about overstay?

Was able to get medical visa at Brumengrad as I was being treated for long term and serious illness there.

Immigration comes once a week, and does all visa work there and then.

Thx
