Drunk Man Sitting on Train Track Struck and Killed by Oncoming Train

A tragic incident occurred in Ban Nonsuan, Warinchamrab District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Thailand. The local police officer on duty, Pol. Lt. Pira Chaihirak, received a report of a train colliding with a pedestrian on the train tracks. The victim, identified as Mr. Buntam Bunsawan, a 44-year-old resident of Ban Nonsuan, was under the influence of alcohol when he climbed onto the tracks, reported Thai Rath.

 

Tragically, he was unable to respond in time as a diesel train, identified as Train No. 427 traveling from Nakhon Ratchasima to Ubon Ratchathani, struck him directly on the head. 

 

Rescue teams from the Phra Upakuttham Foundation and medical staff from the Warinchamrab Hospital arrived at the scene to examine the body.

 

The incident took place at a railroad crossing near the Nonsuan community, approximately 30 meters away from the designated railway crossing point with barriers.

 

The impact was severe, with the victim's head sustaining a fatal blow upon hitting the signal post, resulting in his immediate death.

 

According to the railway officials stationed at the Nonsuan crossing, Mr. Buntam was seen sitting and playing on the tracks at the accident site, which is poorly lit.

 

He had apparently intended to get up and leave the tracks but was struck by the oncoming train, traveling at high speed. The train driver had no chance to react before the collision occurred.

 

Mr. Sompong Bunsuk, a 70-year-old father of the deceased, stated that his son was unemployed and only engaged in farming activities.

 

He also had a habit of consuming alcohol. It is suspected that after consuming alcohol, Mr. Buntam became intoxicated and climbed onto the tracks, resulting in the fatal collision. Mr. Sompong expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his son and intends to proceed with the customary funeral rites in accordance with their traditions.
