Phuket Taxi Turf Wars.

Featured Replies

Foreign tourists were forced out of a minibus at Rassada pier after they booked a minivan through a mobile app. A group of men surrounded the minivan driver and told him he couldn't pick up passengers because he had a yellow plate and if he wanted to pick up passengers he had to wait for them in the Rd leading to the pier. Eventually after a meeting the " Cartel " allowed the minivan driver to resume his journey.

Till you try and call a Taxi in a tourist area. The last time this happened the local Taxi mafia blocked the rd off to prevent tourists from entering and leaving their Hotel in Phuket.

Seems different story cos it concerned a lone young lady yesterday  but today it says foreign tourists were forced out..

So no, not the same story. Just another episode in the ongoing thuggery that is Pukhet taxi "trade".

No link to any such story, just a rehash from an OP with a days lag time!

Something similar happened at the new krung tep train station to me. I went out to the taxi area and they wanted 600 baht to Don Mueng airport. I booked a grab for 280. When the grab showed up. 2 of the taxi guys started arguing with him and he just left. So I walked over to the other side of the station and rebooked. Same guy came a got me.
