BANGKOK (NNT) - Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) and Nichirei Fresh Inc, a major Japanese seafood supplier, have launched a collaborative project aimed at safeguarding biodiversity and protecting mangrove ecosystems. The initiative supports their shared commitment to a sustainable food supply chain and aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project’s launch involved volunteers led by representatives of both companies planting a variety of mangrove trees in the coastal wetlands of Tha Prig subdistrict in Thailand’s Trat province.

Motohiro Kiuchi, a group leader at Nichirei Fresh, emphasized his company’s commitment to ethical business practices and adherence to "Circular Economy" principles. He further stressed the importance of preserving mangrove ecosystems for maintaining sustainable shrimp supply chains. Winai Danvattana, a consultant for CPF, also reiterated CPF’s dedication to sustainability in food production and its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The joint venture marks a significant milestone in achieving SDGs. By taking a proactive role in addressing these issues, the two companies are exploring new avenues for sustainable growth and responding positively to global initiatives aimed at preserving the environment and reducing the impact of climate change.
