Andrew Dwyer
So, I have had a small growth under my nose, adjacent to the left nostril, for many years. Recently it appears larger and more inflamed, the problem being shaving. I wet shave but steer clear of the growth as I have nicked it a couple of times, so i usually wet shave near then finish with an electric razor, but this also seems to add to the irritation. More recently i have started plucking the hairs around it and on it ( hairs grow through it also ) but this sometimes draws a little blood ( see photo ), not sure if that’s due to me mistaking some dry skin for a grey hair . It doesn’t hurt, except when i irritate it with the electric razor, but is unsightly and i wish it gone. Any thoughts on what it is and if it can be treated or removed ?, i would appreciate any suggestions .

Popular Post lopburi3
Demonology department of hospital - and probably should check for skin cancer prior to removal. If positive for cancer they will make a larger cut. Have had done myself about 20 years ago on a positive cancer. Remember to be pro active as few Thai have skin cancer so many doctors will not make such checks a priority unless asked.

Well actually there are and maybe the OP should give his location so he could be advised about the best place to have this checked. 1 2

Popular Post Sheryl
This may indeed be a skin cancer. Needs to be surgically removed and biopsied. In Bangkok, the least expensive option (but entailing long waits & red tape) is the government Institute of Dermatology https://www.iod.go.th/en/ Otherwise this dermatologist at private hospital: https://www.bumrungrad.com/en/doctors/Niyom-Tantikun Whomever you see may want to refer you to a plastic surgeon for the removal. This will certainly get a better cosmetic result but will also cost more. If you don't care about a scar, say so and ask the dermatologist to go ahead and remove. If you can manage a trip all the way down to Pattaya, the country's best doctor for skin cancer is: https://www.bangkokpattayahospital.com/en/doctor-profile?v_id=7&depid=2 She will not just treat this growth but also do an all-over skin cancer check. If you have one skin cancer you are at risk of others. 2 2

It looks like a Hemangioma of sorts... and they are most commonly benign growths / vascular tumors (blood vessels cells growing where they shouldn't). Of course, go and see a Dermatologist and ask them to run biopsy just to be sure, but I doubt they'll be worried. The Dr will either prescribe a topical solution to reduce the Hemangioma or cut it off directly using a cauterising knife.... ultimately that depends upon how quickly you want 'it gone'. nikmar
i had a skin biopsy done at Bangkok Christian Hospital - not expensive (also my insurance covered it) and I was very well looked after. 1

Hard to tell from a picture but does not look at all like a hemangioma to me - they are usually bright red in color. Looks to me much like a basal cell carcinoma. But of course, need biopsy to be sure. 1 1

Looks just like the one I had on my leg.... which was actually a 'Pyogenic Granuloma'... It turned red after about a week. Of course, as you mention, only a Dermatologist and biopsy will provide answers. Edited June 8, 2023 by richard_smith237 1
