Popular Post webfact
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced its plans for the fiscal year 2024, with a focus on growing off-peak customers, increasing spending per trip by 7%, and distributing income to a wider range of destinations. The budget for these initiatives is set at 5 billion baht, a significant increase from the 3.25 billion baht allocated for fiscal 2023. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn explained that the key strategies for the upcoming fiscal year, beginning in October 2023, will be promoting fairness in revenue distribution through a “sharing economy” and making Thailand a “Tourism for All” destination. The aim is to achieve better distribution of tourists to secondary provinces and improve the dispersal of visitors throughout the year, rather than just during the high season. “We will create more opportunities and improve access to ensure that all people can travel to Thailand,” Yuthasak said. He also mentioned the possibility of implementing travel vouchers to boost tourism in secondary cities, as suggested by Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the proposed coalition government. Yuthasak, whose second term as governor will end on August 31, highlighted that the lessons learned from the pandemic have helped TAT formulate a new plan for the next year and implement crisis management for possible future contingencies. by Alex Morgan Phu Sab Lek, Lopburi, Image via Amazing Thailand, Facebook Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thailand-boosts-tourism-budget-to-5bn-baht-targets-off-peak-travellers -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-06-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Popular Post Goat
Any mention of TAT on this forum seems to trigger the same old bar stool reactions from the usual old aunties. The reality is TAT has had amazing success bringing trillions of baht into Thailand and improving the lives of millions of Thai people directly and lifting the standard of living generally. Other south east asian countries have beautiful beaches and are even cheaper than Thailand, but Thailand brings in more cash than all the others combined, Bangkok is extremely popular as are the islands etc. This idea outlined in the OP is exactly what is needed. Thailand is recovering so much better and faster than most other tourist spots around the world. Ironically the aunties posting were lured here because of TAT even if they dont realise it. Thailand is a world tourism leader. Suck it up girls. 2 1 1

In your eyes I probably know nothing but with only first landing in Thailand in 2002, living island life on Kow Tow which then was a paradise (not anymore), living the Bangkok life and also rural southern Thailand and things are not rosey at all. TAT are a joke, Thailand should be a holiday wonderland and not far off perfect but greed and theft of funds it regressed instead of progressed. Roads and infrastructure are non existent (being disabled and holidaying in Thailand is a no no then there is the Mafia in the form of police, taxi military and the risk of being attacked or bitten by rabid dogs or thai men oh and the deadly roads. If I did not have family there I would never set foot in the place but hay I know nothing. 2 1

Are you seriously saying you believe Thailand's tourist numbers will be lower in 2030 than 2019?

Thailand is a world tourism leader. Suck it up girls. My partner and I have visited many countries. Not once did we consult any TAT-like agencies these countries might have had. No TAT-like agency convinced us to visit. We visited these countries because we wanted to see them--and would have visited regardless of the country's tour department. I suspect we are not in the minority on this. Thailand may indeed be a 'world tourism leader'--but not because of TAT. No, it's Thailand's many varied natural and man-made tourist attractions that bring tourists in the millions. Yes, Bangkok and the islands, as you say, are popular. But, without the private industry that developed both--and all the other tourist places--there would not be the vast tourist infrastructure in place for TAT to trumpet. I'm reminded of a visit to Koh Chang a couple years ago. We stayed at a gorgeous resort that had been constructed on a very difficult cliff site. Difficult, yes, but the result was spectacular. A private company built it, not TAT, with no guarantee of economic success. Just one example--there all around. We saw many examples of the same thing with other visits to Phuket, Samui, and, a few weeks ago, Koh Lipe. Private industry, not TAT, has been, and still is, risking and spending lots of money to make desirable places and attractions for tourists to visit. I, for one, would like to see a detailed breakdown of where that 5 billion baht is being spent. 4 1
