Nicola Sturgeon is in custody after being arrested in connection with the investigation into the Scottish National Party's finances.

Scotland's former first minister and ex-SNP leader was detained as a suspect and is currently being questioned by detectives.

Ms Sturgeon's husband, the party's former chief executive Peter Murrell, was previously arrested as part of the probe along with ex-treasurer Colin Beattie. Both men were subsequently released without charge pending further inquiries.

Not very well liked in Scotland.

Lock her up for a long time if guilty.

If she is suspected of criminal activity then due process should be followed.

Good to see Police Scotland take positive action when faced with unanswered questions. If only the Met took the same line against Tory party criminality, Johnson, Hancock, Mone and so many others would be banged up already.

Great news. I wish I could have seen her being read her rights.

A truly odious individual. What a fall from grace. Marvelous. Let’s hope she’s charged ASAP.

Good to see the future of the Union looking stronger than ever.

UPDATE: Nicola Sturgeon calls arrest a 'shock and deeply distressing' after release without charge

After she was released Ms Sturgeon said in a statement: "To find myself in the situation I did today when I am certain I have committed no offence is both a shock and deeply distressing.

"I know that this ongoing investigation is difficult for people, and I am grateful that so many continue to show faith in me and appreciate that I would never do anything to harm either the SNP or the country.

"Obviously, given the nature of this process, I cannot go into detail. However, I do wish to say this, and to do so in the strongest possible terms.

Everything!

Sure - I was making a comparison between the muscular response of police Scotland to allegations of financial impropriety within the SNP, and the complete lack of interest within in the Metropolitan Police with regards to the allegations of corruption in the awarding of COVID contracts or peerages for cash which are laid at the door of the Tory government.

Try to be more descriptive - maybe make a list of specific things, for example?

It would take too long!

It is easier to list her good qualities; NIL!

She is not nicknamed "Wee Burney" and  "Toytown Tartanista" for nothing.

The childish way she pretends to not remember anything when being questioned for starters.

That makes her odious? That makes her a politician. Do you really not have anything of substance?

Yes it makes her odious. You can deflect as much as you like but the way she has tried to manipulate the Scottish people in order to fulfill her own personal ambitions for power is revolting. IMO it reflects poorly on the Scottish electorate that so many people were foolish enough to fall for her hate speech and general divisiveness.

The news of her arrest was great news for many and completely humiliating for her. Her political career is in tatters. Hopefully she is charged and goes to jail.

The fact that her replacement is Hamza Yousaf is more great news for the future of the Union.

What an incredibly arrogant response. You are essentially saying that Scots have been hoodwinked and are incapable of making up their own decision about the future of our country.

And then you throw in this guff about hate speech. I know as fact that you are unable to point to a single example of this but I guess when you have nothing else, you have to rely on lies.

Not unlike the mocking way Brexiteers are categorized. I guess you don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot. Typical left wing hypocrisy. Not unlike the way you think nationalism is fine when it is Scottish nationalism, but unacceptable from other nationalities.

Plenty of examples of Sturgeon's hateful rhetoric. She just uses the word "detest" instead of "hate".
