Speeding Pick Up Loses Control And Crashes Into Traffic Island

A driver, with passengers, was speeding home in a Toyota Vigo after a party in Pattaya. The road was very slippery because of rain. The driver suddenly slammed on the brake to make a U-turn, which caused the truck to crash into the traffic island. The truck overturned and four injured people were trapped in the truck.

On 8 July 2007, at 1 AM, Pol.Lt.Col. Phumiphat Namphudsa, Investigator, Pattaya, was notified that a truck lost control, crashed into a traffic Island and overturned. The driver and three passengers were injured and still trapped in the truck. The accident occurred at the U-turn before the North Pattaya traffic lights, on Sukhumvit road, inbound to Pattaya. After notification, a team of police officers, along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue, rushed to the scene of the mishap.

At the scene, was a bronze Toyoto Vigo truck, license 5233, Bangkok, which crashed into the traffic Island and overturned, causing much damage. Many big trees and bushes were destroyed. The driver and passengers were trapped inside the truck. The officials were able to rescue them with great difficulty. The driver and the passenger in the front had minor injuries. However, the other two passengers in the rear were severely injured. They were Mr.Montien Gong-gangwan (34) and Mr. Arnon Artprasa (32). They were taken to Bangkok- Pattaya hospital.

All of the injured people were on the staff of a big shipyard in Na-Jomtien, Sattahip. Before the accident, they attended a drinking party at a restaurant in Pattaya. On the way back, the driver intended to make a U-turn on North Pattaya Road. However, it was raining, the road was slippery and the driver was unfamiliar with the road. He was, apparently, drunk. When he came upon the U-Turn sign, he suddenly slammed on the brakes and lost control, causing the truck to crash into the traffic Island. Luckily, there were no fatalities.

However, officials were to test the driver for alcohol consumption to see if he was over the legal limit. Pattaya City was informed about the damage to the trees in the middle of the island and will probably bill the driver.
