More doctor and nurse positions to be created in state hospitals

Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) have agreed that about 35,000 positions for doctors and 140,000 positions for nurses will be created in the next three years, to address the shortage of medical staff and the brain drain from the state sector, especially among interns.

 

Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, deputy permanent secretary of public health, said today (Tuesday) that, in the long-term, about 2,000 additional medical students will be admitted to medical schools each year, resulting in more doctors graduating in the future.

 

Regarding career paths for doctors in state hospitals, the CSC and the Public Health Ministry agreed that certain regulations will be reviewed to upgrade the status of doctors to specialists, as an incentive to prevent them from leaving to join private hospitals, where the pay is higher and the workload is lower, said Dr Taweesin.

It's not the number that counts, but the quality of education and training......in which seems to be in short supply.

I would see it even wider...

We need more nurses and doctors because the society is getting sicker...and not a little bit, massive....diabetics and heart problems. Where are any programs to teach people about healthy food or healthy lifestyle? We had such programs in the past.

Lot of docs+nurses go into foreign countries or just take other jobs as work load and payment doesn't fit. Higher salaries are the easier fix.

Many positions are simply not filled...creating more positions won't help.

And the plan comes from the same people who where a complete failure during covid....they are incompetent

Anyway it is just a caretaker government...let the incoming government do it.

Yes indeed

A policy of continual progression would have already seen all those Doctors and Nurses positions filled.

Its 6 Years to fully train a competent Doctor isnt it ?

6 years for an incompetent doctor...because he needs years of experience to get competent

Wasn't the vaccine mandatory for nurses? So that might caused some to resign as well?

First it is news many stressed are leaving nursing and doktoring. How making new positions is to work ?

Where will they find 175,000 new doctors and nurses from?

 

Especially if they don't increase the starting salaries just to keep up.

Yes, along with a lot of other rules and restrictions.... like reporting if one had travelled outside one's province. Not sure the nurses had many who were so opposed to vaccines that they would resign rather than have one.

I guess most nurses happily took the vaccine....but in already overstretched system a few less matter

I recall a nurse related to my Mrs helped her family to queue jump and get vaccinated at her facility....a lot of factories in Bangkok required vaccination too and were quite strict.

yes I saw many sticker with "all staff vaccinated" Also NOK Air had it. We have a strict policy of not wanting to know any private or medical things from staff.....Officially I don't even know who is vaccinated (unofficial I know when they went and when one asked me for my opinion on the safety).
