I did this last year with an O visa. Do not write the visa number on your landing card. At immigration, politely ask the kind officer to SAVE THE VISA, that you would like to use it for a later entry. He wrote SAVE VISA in pencil near the visa. It worked for me. They most certainly did not cancel my visa until I wanted them to, on my next entry.

I've done this twice now. Most recently at the end of June 07.

Explained to the immigration officer I was just there for a short stay...and was planning to return after a holiday outside of TH and would then use my TV.

He made a note on the 30-day stamp, was not a problem.

I have not noticed anyone reporting there visa was marked used if they requested a visa exempt entry. They will either provide the visa exempt entry (most likely) or insist on using the visa for entry. Yes you can ask and most likely they will do as you request.

If they insist on using your visa rather than giving you a visa-exempt entry remember to get a re-entry permit before you leave the country, then at least you can get some value out of your tourist visa.

I was the one who had an entry cancelled on a 3 entry tourist visa. I explained to the officer I did not wish to use an entry but rather get a visa exempt, thus saving the entry. Officer had me initial that I did not wish to use an entry. Upon returning from next trip, I discover that the entry had been cancelled
