billp Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 I'm on a Mac with Firefox 2.0.0.4 and suddenly beginning yesterday, the toolbars above the posting editor fail to work. I only get a toolbar when I use "Fast Reply," but none of the other options, and the items on the toolbar are non-functional. No smilies. And "My Assistant" is inoperative. In the error console on Firefox I have a ton of errors, all with Thai Visa on them. For example: Error: missing ) after argument list Source File: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/jscripts/ipb_global.js Line: 1, Column: 158 Source Code: ',left='+X;}if(Y>0){showy=',top='+Y;}if(scroll!=0){scroll=1}var Win=window.open(url, name,'width=' Error: return not in function Source File: http://media.thaivisa.com/adjs.php?n=46495...%26lastdate%3D0 Line: 5, Column: 1 Source Code: return;/*rite(phpadsbanne*/; Error: gbl_check_search_box is not defined Source File: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?sh...=129887&hl= Line: 2068 Error: add_onload_event is not defined Source File: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/jscripts/ipb_topic.js Line: 1 Error: is_ie is not defined Source File: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/style_images...ps_menu_html.js Line: 78 Error: is_ie is not defined Source File: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/style_images...ps_menu_html.js Line: 78 And on and on. What's happening?
billp Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 I should say that when I use "Add Reply" or " Reply" I just get a bizarre plain edit window without any toolbar or anything. In "Fast Reply" I get a toolbar, but nothing on it works.
Totster Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Hi, I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4 on windows and am not experiencing any of the problems that you are describing. Have you tried using another browser ? What happens then ? Totster
george Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 You need to activate Javascript. The forum doesn't work with Javascipt turned off.
billp Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Thanks for the reply. Javascript was never DISabled. It's turned on in Firefox preferences, as it always has been. How do I (re)activate it?
billp Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 OK, I have: (1) found some Java prefs in the /library/preferences folder and deleted them; (2) opened Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Plugin Settings apps and reset them; (3) opened Java Preferences App and changed J2SE Version from 5.0 to 1.4.2 and back; (4) repaired permissions, run maintenance scripts and rebuilt prebindings using Tiger Cache Cleaner; (5) restarted and rebooted numerous times; and it still doesn't work. I haven't done any cache cleaning yet, but I don't see the point. I didn't download and reinstall Firefox because the problem is present in Safari as well. So far, it ONLY affects Thai Visa as far as I can tell. Other Java-based behaviours on the web seem to be unaffected and are recorded on the . And as I said, Java is enabled in both Firefox and Safari. Any other ideas?
billp Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 I reinstalled Java 5.0 fresh from Apple. Did a deep cleaning of all caches with Tiger Cache Cleaner. Rebooted. Problem still persists.
george Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 I have no Mac experience, so can't be of any help there. No problems reported from members running Microsoft operating systems.
billp Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Well, it's sure got me flummoxed. There must surely be a broken Java part somewhere. I've got Firebug on now and just reloading this page has generated 15 Javascript errors.
billp Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 OK, I found the problem. Since this was the only website it was happening with - including other sites which rely heavily on Javascript - and it was happening on 2 separate browsers, I couldn't imagine it was a Firefox or a Mac issue. The other day, after reading about the poster who was seeing a non-standard tree view, I went on "Options" and reset my view as "Standard." It WAS standard already and had never been changed, but, anyway, after the reset I tried the toolbar and - lo and behold - everything works again! That includes My Assistant and Emoticons I must have hit some sort of glitch in the scripting which gives us these various views. (I'm not surprised because I still have Firebug on, and it has been reporting the most errors per page of any website I regularly visit.) Anyway, in case anyone else has this problem, that's the solution
billp Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 (edited) Wanted to edit the above posting for the record (what are the parameters under which we can edit our own posts, anyway?). Since I corrected the glitch, TV Forum pages are displaying only about 3 errors in Firebug, which is more-or-less standard. So I guess whatever happened was blocking part of Javascript on this forum for me only. Edited July 27, 2007 by billp
