Edge/gprs Coverage In Rayong Area

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First of all, i'm new to this forum, plenty of useful info :o

Since i will spend 3 months i Mae Phim (25 km south of Ban Phe) soon i've been looking into my options for getting online while there. Best option seems to be Edge using a pccard or a mobile phone as modem. However when looking at the coverage map of both DTAC and AIS they are quite old and it's hard to tell if my area has coverage.

Would be nice if anyone knew if there were any updated coverage maps available somewhere....

Another option for me might be Hutch, it looks as they have coverage in my area. But i haven't been able to figure out if it's possible to use Hutch as a prepaid service or if you have to get a contract, which i understand can be hard to get without a workpermit.

Any help would be appreciated!

Best Regards

I doubt Edge will be available that far out of the city of Rayong.

The latest update I had from AIS was that "some" parts of Rayong city are covered.

Basically this would mean you'll have to check with an Edge capable phone and see if the E or the G indicator lights up.

You are correct that Hutch can only be subscribed to, and that indeed you need a work permit to do this. You are also stuck with a one year contract.

Both Ais and Dtac have gprs on their pre-paid simcards, it only looks like you'll be stuck with the low standard gprs speeds in that area.
