Outgoing Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha announced on Tuesday that he will leave politics and resign as a member of United Thai Nation Party.

His statement was posted on the party’s Facebook page.

He expressed his wish that the party’s leader and executive board members, as well as its members, will continue political activities with strong ideologies while protecting the country’s institutions and taking care of the Thai people.

He asked that people continue to support the work of the party and expressed his thanks to people who supported the party and him in the general election in May.

The party garnered 4,766,408 votes, 12.52% of the voter turnout. This gave the party 13 party-list MPs and 36 MPs altogether, which is considered good for a party which was only recently founded.

“I decided to be a member of the United Thai Nation party because I wanted a party of quality, with strong ideologies, which loves the country, the religion and the monarchy, as well as being a pillar for the country in the future,” Prayut wrote.

Another day and another one bites the dust from the UTN. This time many will be excited to see this one gone from the political spectrum.  Watch and see if he does not try and become the new General Prem......

  • Popular Post

Glad to see him go, although there were some good things about his government, especially General Anupong as Minister of Interior.

Happiest day of my life.. Claiming he protected the religion??? how?? the Monarchy?? how by abuse section 112 ?? and taking care of the country and its people?? How by making more household debts, ruining the tourism, higher corruption and the only thing that went well was his bankaccount.. He survived all complaints in court  because of his corruption.. Now hopefully the MFP has to clean the mess the made of Thailand

Did he ever enter politics?

  • Popular Post

That is so sad.

No really. He could have quit years ago already. Instead, he held Thailand back for 9 long years.

... good f'n riddance then!

Like all other MPs, Prayut still has to fill out his wealth declaration after serving the country. So that a before comparison (2014) and a post comparison (2023) is possible. I hope he didn't just sacrifice himself for peanuts.

Prayut bows out, nods to a new era dawning. Outgoing PM emphasised stability of his tenure

An emotional departing statement from outgoing Prime Minister Prayut Chan Ocha suggested he was proud of leaving behind a record of stability, financial prudence and care for the vulnerable. It comes just hours before a decisive parliamentary meeting to elect the kingdom’s 30th Prime Minister with a stark choice between a new era or a potential political crisis.

General Prayut highlighted his government’s record of stable management of the country and financial prudence while always paying attention to the need to protect the vulnerable when it came to policy and decisions including at times of crisis.

Just days ahead of the key vote in parliament which may either elect 43-year-old Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat as Prime Minister ushering in a new era in Thai politics or a political stalemate which could plunge the country into a vortex of instability, the caretaker Prime Minister Prayut Chan ocha who has been in the hot seat since the coup d’état in May 2014, announced his resignation from politics.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan Ocha, on Tuesday, formally announced his resignation from politics. It comes days before a decisive vote in Parliament to select Thailand’s next Prime Minister with uncertainty as to whether the candidacy of Move Forward Party leader Mr Pita Limjaroenrat will be successful even though he is supported by an eight-party coalition representing 72% of voters in the May 14th General Election.

Come now....

It is Politics that quit Prayut

not the other way round

Truth is if he didn't storm the place in a coup he would never have been accepted al all

He was never a Politician......

To use that old adage, in enhanced form, "don't let the door slam your sorry butt too hard on the way out".

I am sure his visa applications are going in as I type for when he hopefully lives in exile. I am glad to see the back of him. His whole time was based on arrogance and the love of of power rather than the betterment of the people. He could never take criticism and his disastrous decision to close the country for nearly three years and sucking up to the WHO and the devastation for the Thai people economically I hope will never be forgiven. There is no welfare state here. If you don't work you don't eat. He has instilled so much fear in some they are still needlessly wearing masks.

Bye, Bye Uncle.

Interesting reading all the comments. In most Democracies most fair minded and rational constituents despite their political persuasion can normally find some positives in the incumbent ruling party/leader.Very hard to find any positives here.

  • Popular Post

After such a woeful tenure in which he trashed democracy and alienated the future of the country, young people, he being army educated never understood policitics in the first place.

A stain on the nation for 10 years it's a pity the country had to suffer from his incompetence for so long, he won't be missed.

Something he over-looked.

Made his fortune and now will bow-out to live a luxurious retirement.

Will he live happily ever after? ????

They should investigate his estate value before the coup and what he is worth now?

That would make an interesting story

Are you for real? Do you really think there will be an honest declaration?

Oh, of course a resignation from politics will get him re-instated as a general.
