Pheu Thai still stands with Move Forward, despite Pita’s setback

Pheu Thai party leader Chonlanan Srikaew has reiterated that the party still stick with the Move Forward led coalition and will not switch sides, even though Move Forward’s leader Pita Limjaroenrat failed to be elected prime minister by parliament yesterday (Thursday).

He said that the Pheu Thai party still recognises the MoveForward party’s legitimacy as the core party in forming a government, because it won more House seats than any other party contesting the May 14th election.

Chonlanan said that there is no empirical evidence to suggest that all the 249 senators oppose Move Forward’s policy to amend the lèse majesté law, although some senators did make their opposition clear during the debate in parliament yesterday.

It is definitely true gamesmanship which is occurring.  Who will get to the finish line as the PM of Thailand is anybody's guess, but the majority of Thai people, well the younger folks, want to see Pita in the drivers seat.

The MFP + PTP coalition need to stand united. As majority in the lower house, they can force a snap election if the junta and senators continue to play hard ball and continue this charade of stone walling the voting of the coalition candidate and continue with the caretaker government. This is a strong card they have and the junta fear. a snap election after the shenanigans played to the nation wide audience. It will be a backlash by voters that the junta will surely regret.

"As majority in the lower house, they can force a snap election" How and who is able to call a "snap election" in this situation?

MPs have been certified, House speaker elected and Parliament opened by the King. Prayut is still the caretaker PM. House speaker can accept a no confidence petition and with the House majority can force (not call) a snap election.

So it is NOT going to happen then is it with Prayut still calling the shots?

A senior figure at one of the Thai banks posted this on his Facebook page:

The rejection of MF is not about loyalty. It's because you want to reduce the army, reduce the number of generals and civil servants. Scrap some laws, reduce power, reduce monopolies, reduce all personal privileges.

The only thing you're going to increase are taxes on the rich

Who can accept you?

As a coalition they can probably request a directive from the top guy to call a new election, considering he has already indicated that the correct thing should be done to elect the next PM.

Vote of no confidence is the prerogative of the house speaker to accept and house to vote on it. PM play no part. The petition can be a vote off no confidence  on the caretaker PM.

The 'who will accept you?' means amongst the privileged senators, elite, who is going to accept a reduction of their benefits..

Talk about 112 is an excuse to reject MF
