Visa for dependent elderly parent?

 

Briefly, my father and I both have a retirement visas. After a recent severe pneumonia he’s become rather incapable of managing things, and I hire 2 caregivers to watch him 24/7. He could not, for example, manage a simple bank transaction or nor can he stand for more than 5 minutes. He’s also 99 years old. His retirement visa expires soon. 

 

Is there such a thing as a dependent visa for an elderly parent? I am officially his guardian, POA, etc. thus have all that US-based paperwork.

 

Suggestions?

You have few options.

Without outlining all...

I think given your father's situation the use of an agent ongoing would be one consideration.

He would no longer require funds in Thai bank.

If much younger some would suggest that he can piggyback on your non O retirement.

That's possible.

Because you are on a retirement extension, your father can change his retirement extension to a dependent extension under clause 2.20 of Police Order 327/2557, wich does not require any proof of finances.

hi, thanks. I started using Darren (key visa) a few years ago for him. While I did mine the official way (seasoned deposit, etc). Sadly and unfortunately Darren is no longer with us, and those running his place now are wanting an actual bank balance, which is odd. Thai Visa Centre (from a call I made to them yesterday) offered to manage this proof of deposit for 18k. But but this police clause below seems a more attractive option. now to figure out how to pursue that.

Clause 2.20 looks good, thanks. Any suggestions on how to manage that? Given that it's probably rather uncommon, I anticipate that I would get a few blank stares at my local immigration office. Perhaps an agent recommendation?

Piggyback on your extensions based on retirement as your dependant is certainly and option.

 

Just one person's option but I suggest given father's situation the use agent would be good option.

Even moreso given that he previously used Key Visa.

There are other good agents in Pattaya.

Check out Maneerat at Soi post office.

Approx 13k for extension. 

No funds required. Bank account is required

I was able to get it resolved. Thanks much for your suggestions. 

 

The challenge I had was A. my father was in the hospital (Bumrungrad). B. the hospital’s biz department at first said they could arrange a medical visa, but then later said they needed to have my father’s bank book with the requisite money in it since he was on a ret. visa. – this was odd, as I expected Bumrungrad to be more knowledgeable. C. my father’s bank book was in Samui and did not have the requisite funds. D. my father’s visa expired on August 4, thus I had 2 weeks at the time, and there was a long holiday. 

 

Manareet (Pattaya) wanted the bank book. And was not sure about the letter from the hospital. However, they do seem like a good option for those who previously used Key Visa, i.e. they can handle a no-funds ret. visa, and other visas. 

 

Thai Visa Centre (BKK), although higher in price, made it pretty easy. They said they only needed a copy of the bank book regardless of funds, plus the passport and a couple digital photos. They picked up and delivered the passport, with the 1 year ret. visa. Renewal, and it took 8 days, even though immigration was closed for 5 of those days. 18k THBx total. 

 

I was able to get someone to copy the bank book (which is still on Samui) and send me pdf’s, which I printed out. I had medevac’d my father from Samui to BKK / Bumrungrad, and did not bring much with us at the time on the jet.
