An agreement expected to see US President Joe Biden's son, Hunter, plead guilty to tax charges and admit a gun offence has dramatically fallen apart in court.

The plea deal, negotiated over several weeks, was likely to spare the younger Mr Biden prison time.

But a judge on Wednesday said she could not "rubber stamp the agreement".

The case marks the first time the justice department has charged the child of a sitting president.

Hunter Biden's lawyers have been given 14 days to hash out a new deal with the prosecution.

It follows a five-year investigation into the finances of the US first son, who arrived on Wednesday morning at the court in Wilmington, Delaware.

 

In a plea agreement announced last month, he was to be charged with two misdemeanour counts for failing to pay his taxes on time in 2017 and 2018.

He was also to admit that he had illegally possessed a gun while being a drug user, and agree to drug treatment and monitoring in lieu of a more serious felony charge and possible jail time.

Ahh if he pleads to a felony gun charge he won’t be allowed to own a gun as far as the rest hunter withdrew his plea because they had the understanding that the harassment on this would stop

Hunter Biden needs to be treated like everyone else. No sweetheart deals because of his father's position. It's great to see this travesty of an arrangement fall apart at the seams. There's hope for the US justice system yet. Well done Judge Noreika.

On topic, Hunter & the Fed felony firearm charge.  We bit of research, very we bit ... but, it seems anything less than a 10 month sentence, will need some explaining to do.

 

So the judge telling them to come up with a Plan B, seems to be appropriate.  Also consider, though not sure, Hunter is not a 'felon'.   That would make a huge difference.

As far as Tax issue goes, nobody goes to jail for not paying taxes, unless circumstance dictate.

 

I owed $70k+ one year, and didn't even file.  Jail was never mentioned during 'negotiations' to pay.

 

He owed a wee bit more, but unless doing something extremely scrupulous, jail shouldn't even considered.  It's not like he refused to pay it, simply not in a timely manner ????

Not a fan of the Bidens, but it does seem to be a bit of selection prosecution on the tax issue, unless I'm missing something.
