Indoor tree for living room. Which species?

Featured Replies

The living room has lots of natural light all day, windows and glass doors on 3 side. No direct sunlight, obviously.

The ceiling is 265 cm tall.

A pot 60cm diameter would be ok. 50cm would be better.

What species trees should we look at?

TIA.

This was a dilemma I had when buying my Bangkok condo in 2009. Some lovely greenery in the living room. Perfect! After a few failures and tree/plant deaths, I settled on the most suitable specimens that would last a long time with minimal maintenance and guaranteed success. The plants chosen were of the variety, excuse my latin, "Plasticus Arborus". Sourced these at Chatuchak market and they have thrived with no watering, no feeding and just the occasional dusting. Did have one GF give them water on occasion but no harm caused ????

I don't know about trees...but some palms do well.

The yellow Areca palm grows really well indoors and looks loveky.

Same with the lady palm.

They don't need much water or direct sunlight and grow slowly indoors.

Weeping Fig ( Ficus Benjamina).

If you had direct sunlight a lemon tree, ideal for G&T.

It's not exactly what we were looking for, but 2 garden centers recommended these.

Only 800 baht.

The pot is small, but it may have broken through the bottom.

They may of course have recommended these as they didn't have any real trees. ????

Does anybody have one indoors?

kentia palm would be my first choice

The top photo is a Ficus Benjamina. If you have a cat, then as in the photo put pebbles on the top to stop the moggies from digging up the soil, also will stop them using it as a loo.
