Pergola / Awning

Hi All, 

 

Im looking to put up a 3m x 1m pergola. This would span between the exterior of the house to the toilet and filter room. 

 

Im looking at a polycarbonate or toughened glass, with composite batons/joists. It can either be mounted to one side of the house, or fixed to both side.

 

The photo of the small awning/roof reflects the close size of what we need (as well as being fixed to one elevation), but the other 2 photos show more the design intent. 

 

Any ideas of a contractor that could assist ?

You could DIY with a couple of these from HomePro... 1m wide and available in a range of colours too.

Stay away from Polycarbonate Roofing

The UV attacks it and it just disintegrates

Thanks Cake monster, i didnt know that. 

 

I did read that when it rains its louder when it hits polycarbonate than glass.

I have not had that problem with my polycarbonate sheet roofing here in Thailand...

 

This is the polycarbonate roofing over our Thai Kitchen (facing South-East) - 8 years old now and "as-new".

 

 

This is the polycarbonate sheeting over our external storage area for garden tools (facing West) - also 8 years old now and "as-new".

 

 

"The length of time that polycarbonate roof panels will last depends upon the maintenance that the roof is given, and the kind of weather that it’s exposed to. If a roof is well maintained, it can last between 10 to 20 years before it’s going to need to be replaced. There are even instances where the polycarbonate roof panels have lasted 30 years"

That looks awesome. Certainly lowers my fear of it needing to be replaced in a short time.

No, my wife contacted a local company to do it.

We are located in Najomtien... not so far from Pattaya's Darkside.

I live on Pattaya's Darkside and used this metal and glass contractor to build my driveway gate, excellent work, fair pricing and I'm guessing building a pergola is within his scope.

Located on Soi Nern Plab Wan near the intersection by the Aqya Dymie bar, metal shop in front/glass shop on the side soi. 081-699-8281

If you don't mind, and if you prefer not too, thats cool, but would you take a photo of your driveway gate, as i am also thinking of having mine upgraded, as my current gate is quite standard and would like to do something to that before the tiling gets done.

The gate is about 5 years old, metal frame, aluminum slats, door with smaller door to accept packages, IIRC paid 20,000b.

What about those retractable awinings that fold in-out, made of UV resistant material-cloth ?

 

Are they worth it in beach town areas and which material would be most appropriate ?

YES & YES. My own fault.

You might be able to save it from further degradation by protecting the drip line with another material fixed on top of the polycarbonate... perhaps a Shera board or similar?

Thats very close to what i have in mind. But i dont have the space to the side to accomodate tracks/rollers. Currently i have bifold gate. Lookwise, thats perfect.

I thought about that and saw some nice looking examples. 

 

For some reason though i have it in my mind, that with these other types, they will match better with the style of the townhouse.
