Germany faces the most serious challenge by a far-right party since World War II, one expert said this week, with the hardline AfD party climbing to second place in opinion polls.

A former German lawmaker who also served as a judge led members of a far-right terrorist group that was plotting to overthrow the government on a tour of the Reichstag, home of the country’s parliament, according to prosecutors.

The new allegations come as Germany faces the most serious challenge by a far-right party since World War II, one expert said, with the hardline Alternative for Germany, or AfD, party climbing to second place in opinion polls.

The former lawmaker at the center of the alleged coup plot belonged to the AfD, which is enjoying greater mainstream success even as the country’s intelligence chief warns it is becoming more extreme.

Intelligence agencies in most western countries have been warning for years that the greatest threat to democracy comes from (white)nationalist/patriot/fascist movements. This is just another confirmation that they are not wrong.

Political parties with seats in parliaments, like FvD in Holland and AfD in Germany, are flirting with or even openly supporting Putin and his murderous regime. And Putin will do everything he can to fan those flames, and to gain the support of more of those useful idiots.

Yes these goons are dangerous in that they can (and have in some cases already) hurt and even kill some people. They are not in any way systemically dangerous.

They are pathetic little garden gnomes, heroes only in their own shriveled hate filled minds. It's worth noting they are now all in court and held in jail, which has provided the legitimation for this scaremongering article. That's what newspeople do.

The AfD will never form a part of German government because they will never get the majority they need. Like Trump's gang they are fascistic manipulators who feed on the fears of society's losers.

Do you really expect EVERYONE to accept the destruction of Europe and America by your people without a fight? (I assume that your username "Red Forever" is a reference to your communist ideology?)

Seems your hypothesis might see some challenges given what has transpired in the USA and the level of extreme right wing powerbrokers in that country.

Given the influence of the USA on world power balances German fascist parties draw great impetus and fuel from the rise of neo-Nazism in the US.

Those mega-funders and promoters of fascism there are very powerful, highly motivated, persistent, and dedicated to destroying democracy and will not stop.

Putin sure seems to have seduced, brainwashed, subjugated, and taken complete control of his nation in pursuit of a neo-Czarist fascistic autocracy and already begun the expansion of this evil westward.

I bring in excess of 1.2 mil baht a year to this country. How much money does the invading hordes bring to the table?

I remember all the dire predictions about what would happen in Germany when they took in the Muslim refugees from the Middle East. Riots and anarchy were projected to be the outcome by the right wingers. I guess instead of facing your disappointment you conjure up a fantasy instead.

It’s not a scaremongering article, it is simply stating facts. Hitler and his nazis were not taken seriously either when they started out, and we all know the price the world had to pay for that.

An AfD mayor has been elected, by the way, in a town in the east of Germany, just this past June. If I were you, I’d take the risk of fascists taking over very seriously.

They bring to the table something you probably don't: youth for a graying population.

You mean the millions of undereducated folks that do the jobs that Europeans and Americans refuse to do anymore?

Are you referring to the ones who keep wages low so locals can't survive working.

The German Workers Party was Socialist. Guess who lead that? Not far right at all.

Yeah sure, blame the foreigners for that. Locals can’t survive working anyway, what with all the price gouging and greedflation by big corporations, abusing the inflation to jack up their prices even more.

They won't if people don't let the Socialists take over.

Maybe you should read this:

If you were referring to the NSDAP, that was the party eventually lead by Adolf Hitler. He was not far right?

No he grew up a socialist.

If that's what it takes to save them from communism, which has killed infinitely more people throughout history than fascism has.

Where are the socialists taking over exactly? Please enlighten me.

I am a peaceful, law-abiding citizen here, contributing to the local economy without doing any harm to anyone. I don't get any benefits from the government, I can't vote or otherwise influence the country. I do not try to change Thailand. The people who are invading Europe and the US are being paid to invade - by our enemies, and even with our own tax money. That is unacceptable to me.

I don't know you. If you haven't read books on history and economics like the link I posted I can't help you. Good luck.
