On recommendation from another forum, I bought one of these $70 chaps.

Believe it or not this little guy is a 3kW (yes you read that right) power supply cum battery charger.

 

Got a 5A charger? Pffft! This chap will bang out up to 60A (assuming of course your pack can handle that charge rate).

 

Available with various pre-programmed voltages (all around a nominal 48V although I understand there's a 24V version) or set it yourself via the CANBUS interface up to 60V.

 

Built like the proverbial brick outhouse these are designed for long service, not new but for the $$$ buy two.

Yeah.

I got myself something similar a few years back when I rebuilt my inverter.

Very useful after a slight modification for setting up over and under voltage trip points on inverter electronics.

I modified mine by adding a variable resistor for output adjustment and to increase the highest voltage a bit.

We are talking about dedicated power supplies with 220v AC input and 48v (or thereabouts) DC output.
