I used to buy them at the market in Bang Saray. I know there’s a vendor at the nearby market here in Bang Phli, but never tried them as there is an ok Five Star about fifty meters away from it. The missus brought one back from a big Lotus last week that was pretty good, though she usually does leg quarters in the air fryer; probably the best.

Also, is there a Thai search term which would yield better results in google maps? I tried searching for "rotisserie chicken" and "roast chicken" but didn't get many results. I found a "Cherng Doi Roast Chicken" but when I went there they didn't have whole roasted chickens like at the other places I mentioned above.

Edit; the Thai words for grilled chicken is "gai yang".

5 star do sell whole birds but they are on the small size.

The local farmers market here has Tandoori chicken, cooked in big earthenware pots with a charcoal fire in the bottom. This is much superior to all the other chicken I have eaten.

Food waste and im paying half the price for perfectly good food if you know how to shop

 

I worked in hiso markets home and in CM and did the whole chix thing..what a PITA cleaning those machines....anyway the chixs that dont sell are broken down and made into chix salad and resold for MORE..so ppl are paying more for days old chix as its still fine to eat and the mayo re hydrate it,,as why u get stale bread and donuts....etc,,,,food loses moisture..veggies etc...

 

I quit my whole foods job over the amount of waste...they would even put it on a compactor or you see locked dumpsters to keep people from eating perfectly good food...I shop at stores that at least leave it to customer to get a deal and they at least get some profit aka wholesale price

 

I do this with meat as its cooked the same day and eggs which last up to a month after sell by dates as you simply put them in water to check if still good....meat would get marinaded as no one wants brown meat even though it is simple oxidation and natural so now they treat the ,eat to make it look super red instead of just leaving it in its natural state......and i cut my budget 50%

 

food typically has a 4 days shelf life if cooked....so my thing is why buy a chicken for double when you can repurpose it for half price and use that money for other things..

 

there are rich ppl that like to flash cash and there are wealthy ppl....warren buffet lives in the same simple house he grew up in......wealthy people are notorious for being frugal, hence $$$$

 

but alas i could go on all day about food and what you are really paying food and safety...and is why i quit my job in CM as a chef as that was just a daily headache arguing with thais over food

I always feel like I ate fast food after a 5-star chicken. That is, I feel bloated and my stomach heavy. Makes me wonder what they do to the chickens/put on them. Nobody else has this reaction?

 

I don't get this from other roasted chickens, just the 5-star. It kind of tastes too good, too delicious, too juicy, etc... So I tend to steer clear of 5-star.

Is it just me or do they almost all use the same marinade?

I've found many seem to have the same taste, unless I buy something that is clay pot cooked.
