If say someone have a Thai bank account, and don't want to transfer the money out of Thailand but rather bring them through customs in person, how much is the maximum limit? I've heard something about 10,000 Euro?? Is that the limit?

The maximum of thai cash(baht) that can be taken out without a permit, according to this website http://www.thailandmoneytransfer.com/cash_...n_Thailand.html is 50,000 baht.

There is also no limit on the amount of Thai currency which can be brought into

Thailand, but only 50,000 baht may be taken out without obtaining a permit. When carrying Thai currency to neighboring countries, e.g., Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, up to 500,000 baht, may be taken out without obtaining a permit. Carrying out an amount of Thai currency which exceeds the above stated limit requires a permit from an authorized bank. The original permit (Thor-Tor 5) must be shown to the Customs officer while passing through the outbound passenger channel.

There is no restriction on both bringing in and carrying out foreign currency.

The US, for instance, has no limit on cash you can take out or bring in, but anything over $10,000 must be declared with customs.

Thanks there :o

No need for a permit to bring out say 500,000 Euro or US Dollar??

Don't the authorities want to know where the money come from?

If say you've sold your house and earned a nice profit, then you will have to show that the money used to buy the house in the first place comes from outside Thailand...else the bank will not allow you to wire the money to your bank account overseas....

But what if you just cash out the money and exchange them into US Dollar and bring them out via the airport?

Doesn't this require a permit? And also proof that the money came into Thailand from abroad in the first place??

Most (if not all) countries allow you to bring in as much cash as you like, however they do require you to tell them as you pass through customs. In Australia the maximum without declaring is AUD$10,000. if it is over the amount you will most likely have to prove where it came from for money laundering and tax purposes. If it is all legit then there are no problems. Tax advice from a professional would be handy as you may have to hand a large portion of it over if you havent done your research. That would not be nice.

Australia requires declaration of $AUD 10,000 or any other currency equivalent.
