Taxi drivers seem to be recruited from the bottom of the barrel... I remember, 20 years ago, they were friendly, didn't refuse as many passengers, and could even hold a simple conversation in English! - Nowadays, many taxi drivers seem to come right from a farm, don't know Bangkok, or routes, and, despite GPS and smartphone, seem to have trouble finding destinations. They can't understand a word of English, don't lift a finger to help with luggage, and sit behind the wheel like zombies...
