Since updating last Wednesday AVG is detecting this Trojan and deleting the files to the $VAULT$ so far 5 to date with 2 of them being executables from my Google DeskTop Search Directory and the other 3 from my Utilities archive some 3 to 5 years old. The xxx extension changes with file size. The latest Norton Definitions are passing these files as being OK.

These files are also on one of my NoteBooks so I ran an AVG scan on last week’s definitions all OK then updated to the latest this morning. Guess what, the files failed!!

An AVG Encyclopaedia search on the Trojan does not bring up a result? There are some threads on other forums about it but most of the text is crap.

Anyone else seeing this behaviour?

I found one of the best programmes to check for trojans is Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE.

It's still free (for personal use) and is updated regularly.

AVG can be a pain ... have you thought about switching to NOD32? Highly recommended.

Delete AVG NOW and install avast - http://www.avast.com/

My computer started doing strange things several weeks ago - I had, and relied on AVG up until then....Oop's big mistake. PC World recommended Avast so I thought I'd give it a try. Straight away it found 3 trojans and a worm. The program is free for home use, updates daily and simply does the job it's supposed to do.

Good luck

After installing nod32 on guy's AVG "protected" computer last weekend, six infections were found that AVG had missed. Suggest you move to one of the following:

NOD32 - 99%+ detection rate, very lightweight, excellent mail scanner, definition files & heuristics. $39 US

http://www.eset.com/

Kaspersky - 99% detection rate, definition files only. $49 US

http://www.kaspersky.com/

Antivir - 99% detection rate, fairly lightweight. Free & paid versions.

http://www.free-av.com/

Avast - 94% detection rate, a bit resource hungry, excellent mail scanner, good heuristics. Free & paid versions

http://www.avast.com/

Good antispyware programs are recommended in addition to (not instead of) one of the above.

Windows Defender

Spybot Search & Destroy

Adaware-SE

Superantispyware

Upload the files here and see what it says.
2 Failures. AVG - Generic5.ILD and BitDefender - Trojan.Small.APJ the rest passed including NOD32 that seems to be favoured here.

Deleting 99% detection in favour of 88%. Not sure if I'd trust their "expertise" anymore. :o

While upgrading the tech. failed to save some of my programmes and this was one of them i reckon ????????

He installed the AVG in place, for some reason he said it was O.K.

It was really trying my patience while it was installed so this thread was a godsend for me.

I usually use the same tech. but on this occasion he was out of town on another job unfortunately.

They all tend to have certain positives and favourite programmes.

Thanks for your imput re the Avira by the way as i couldn,t remember which one i had been using.

The old grey matter isn,t as tech / comp. friendly i,m afraid, due to a late start as a " silver surfer "

Sounds like a false positive then. Happens from time to time. Might be an idea to send AVG the files zipped so they can update their database.

It may be tempting fate but since deleting AVG and re installing Avira i have been able to use my computer without the constant problems i,d previously experienced.

Thank you all for your much appreciated imput and experience on this particular forum that many others along with myself get endless benefits from your imput.
