Shoei fitment

Looking to get a new lid and leaning towards a Shoei J-Cruise - medium or large and will have to order it online being that it’s not stocked in this region. I have an intermediate oval head 58.0 cm, wondering if anyone here has a Shoei with an intermediate oval noggin @58cm? Medium or large? Thanks

Where are you in Thailand ???

If in Bangkok Paddock (on Ratchada rd) stocks Shoei helmets and appears to stock the J-Cruise-2.

https://paddock.co.th/product/jcruise-2/

I can't remember what exact size my head is... But I had my Neotec-2 fitted at Paddock (they have a pro helmet fitter and they adjusted some of the forehead and check padding for a perfect fit).

In the north, shops are all out and have a shop in bkk scoped out

Although be very careful of the 'shop' as there are fakes around.

A reputable shop in Chiangmai that is listed as a Shoei dealer only occasionally has any Shoei in stock. I was at the shop the other day and much to my surprise they had a counterfeit Bell sitting next to a genuine Bell and I started questioning the retailer and she stammered bs. Good advice on the reputable shops, though still pretty weedy out there.

In that case fair enough.... Although be very careful of the 'shop' as there are fakes around.

I can confirm Paddok sells the genuine product, I've purchased 3 helmets from there (2 Shoei and 1x AGV).

I can't speak with certainty as I have never compared Shoei open face with full face helmets, however, have you the option to try on a different Shoei model and check the size ?

I imagine a brand of that standard should offer consistent sizing across the range.

Yes fakes are over the internet and Micky Mouse quality in the shops. Fakes are easy to spot

Different helmets fit different shaped heads. If you don't have a "Shoei head"  then they won't fit.

Sadly the only way to find out is to try one on.

I have a Shoei head as I've had two, but my other helmet is a Shark (medium with small cheek pads). If there is a Shark dealer up North?

Yes there is a shop that sells shark, none fit all xl and no Shoei in the shop. Looks like I’ll need to fly to bkk for a day. I’ve tried on at 30 helmets and none fit except for a TDC. It’s better than nothing for now

and I find Shoei too round so they put pressure on my forehead.

Weird, that because I always wore Shoei. Now that happens to me if I forgo my Shark and use an older Shoei.

I just measured and I am around 56-57cm using a metal tape.

As I said my Shark is L but if it is a good shop like the one I found in BKK they put 30mm cheek pads in for me so they could sell it and magic.

That  was to be my next suggestion.

You really need to try one.  I know from trying on a range helmets that I have an Arai shaped head, and I find Shoei too round so they put pressure on my forehead.   In general I find the locally made helmets too round too.

Arai don’t fit my head, too round. Everything I’ve read about Shoei is intermediate oval shape

You wear Shoei medium? I presume a little loose without the cheek pads?

Shoei is Medium. Bog standard, stock cheek pads.

Shark is Large with 30mm check pads. Fits like a glove. Very little rotational slop and has cut-outs for speakers.

Fitment of both is about the same.

I wear the Shark more not only because it is newer but because wearing a balaclava I can take it on and off while still wearing my glasses.????

Anyone who takes the time to read these articles will surely be motivated to acquire the best possible helmet.

I really like the Shark carbon composite, nice and light and the hats are super comfortable. But the carbon composite doesn’t hold up as well the other mixed fibers, and it doesn’t come in white color (black is too hot for April and May) still tempted to purchase one.

Good info and scary what little impact it takes to do a lot of damage.

Arai makes various shaped helmets…

I also would go for a shark, more for the money. And safety specs the same

Proper fitting is paramount for safety regardless of upper end manufacturers.

Of course, I expect those who is serious to try and see how a helmet fits before buying. I only bought same model I had before online once, because I knew it would fit.

I had both, and The plus with Shark helmets, you get available spare parts for a decent price in Thailand in comparison to Shohei and HJC as example, and Shark have more dealers spread out.

Totally agree, Shoei is a sparse product especially in Chiangmai, though it’s my preferred helmet. I would definitely wear a Shark if the model I like came in different colors, black gets too hot for me setting in a traffic jam on a hot day. And definitely knowing what models fit before purchasing online is a no brainer and something the OP should seriously consider first.
