Weighing passengers to become standard for Bangkok Airways

Nobody reads the full story  do they ? The weighing of passengers is to be carried out until October 31 st. by many airline compagnies. So why the hullabaloo? This is to have complete data on how heavy a plane really is and safety issues. They will take everything into account, food trays, baggage, staff, passengers etc.  This is very important for small planes and has been done regularly on short island flights. I experienced this in the Philippines, from Manila to the islands . At first seems strange , but then quite logical when you see the amount of baggage people take and in carry on. Common sense should tell you they wouldn’t be weighing A380-800 or 747s Passenger by passenger.

Maybe they also start measuring our leg length and issue better seats to those who are tall?

That seems fair, even though I probably wouldn't benefit, fat to the extent it flows into the next seat however for most people is a life style choice and most of the times the excuses are just silly - big bones, runs in the family (no one runs in your family ????), predisposition to T2, hereditary, is in 99% of cases just a cop out, thus they should pay..

I am going to enjoy being in the line and a loud mouth from a certain country has to pay more than me to get the same seats on the same flight hahaha!

The only time I ever hear someone kicking up a fuss in Makro,Lotus or Big C it is always accompanied by that unbearable accent.

It's pretty simple. There are a set amount of seats, and we have a limit to the KGs of luggage we can bring on. If we go over that luggage amount, we need to pay extra. So why should there be no limit on body weight? It should be total net weight of you plus luggage. If you are someone who can't stop indulging in gluttony, you should have to pay the consequences. Being obese should be a shameful situation, and in terms of business and flying, it should be taxed fairly.

Absolutely. and I believe the charges for excess baggage are extortionate too, A total weight allowance is obviously the way to go based on an average weight, lets say 80kilos for guys and 60 kilos for women (and that's being generous) go over it and pay more, stay under and pay less, and all the fat people should be seated next to each other

As you might expect fat people are now classed as victims in the UK and mentioning their condition is almost classed as a "hate crime"  However as is often the case , it is perfectly acceptable to criticise thin people, no problem at all to refer to them as stick insects

Expect in that case to be forced in to another seat class , where indeed the seats would fit better the heavy / longer passengers ......but at a also higher ticket pricing

But the fat will be three times the mass. You're obviously not the brightest

555... that's not what you said... You said that muscle weighs more than fat which is a completely false statement... so I venture that you're not the brightest.   And actually the difference between them is approximately 15 - 20 percent not three times... again your not the brightest, using your words.

Where in this report did it mention extra costs in an exercise that will last another six weeks only?

No exercise is done with the intent of it goiing on for a short period, then stopping forever. Business does not squander money in this manner. The trial period is to test the waters to guage what the reaction would be. You seem to have a very limited understanding of the world.

You're entitled to speculate just as I'm entitled to point out, and comment on, whatever was actually reported and there was no mention of this one airline's exercise being a precursor to higher charges for the obese.

Your opinion of my "understanding of the world" is as fatuous as it is irrelevant.

Yeah but the full story leaves no scope for bitching and whining.  Better to get half the story and imagine the rest to suit your current bitch.

Your chance to weigh in on airport and flight practices in Thailand may be coming, quite literally. Bangkok Airways is looking to join a number of international airlines that will be weighing passengers before boarding.

On September 16, it became clear that airlines were getting a bit nosy about passengers’ pounds. Foreign giants like Korean Air and Air New Zealand initiated an eyebrow-raising rule, demanding that passengers step on the scales before they step onto the plane.

Why? To crack the code of standard passenger weight and averages to safely calculate flight load.

In a recent development within the aviation industry, the unconventional practice has taken off and the notion of assessing passengers’ weight before boarding has gained traction. Their aim? To keep those aircraft trimmed and proper, reducing fuel consumption in the process.

THe amount of fuel used in a flight is directly proportional to the weight.mass the plane is flying. So it is more expensive to transport a heavier person.  It is important to know how much it costs to carry everything from a case to a big person. THen they will have to decide whether or not it is worth charging passengers accordingly. You are a percentage of the payload and that amount will vary with your weight.

Of course it should also involve changes in seat design..... big peope require more space in the fuselage.

What is the purpose of all this ?
Make fat people pay more n slim people pay less ?
Safety - balancing the plane?

Creating comfort for passengers to re allocate seats for fat n slim?

Do let me know if anyone has an answer ..

making it more hard for people traveling on commercial flights. Private jets owners are not concerned...

"  .......................and the purpose is to aid in the calculation of the take-off weight, to ensure flight safety."

Knowing Bangkok Air, and their extortionate prices on the Bangkok - Samui route, the purpose in future will be to charge overweight passengers extra!

weight is kind of important when it comes to keeping a steel structure flying through the air at hundreds of miles an hour.

Yeah, you said that already and were wrong both times.

Planes aren't made of steel, which is far too heavy.  They are made of aluminium and composite plastics, which are far lighter.
