May not be Chiang Mai specific so if need to be moved to general Visa not a problem. ????

Went to immigration to do my annual extension based on work at Chiang Mai University. It was refused as the university generated document for immigration shows Non-Immigration "B". I entered Thailand 30 years ago on a Non-ED and have extended every year based on that with never an issue or questioned it.

CMU has fully automated the documents for immigration as they have an MOU with them. Appears there is no option to change that one item from NonB to ED. The forms are filled automatically and the only form for Non-ED is for students only. Appears last year it did show Non-B but was missed, not this time though.

Since my extension expires at the end of this month it has put me in a bind. I have renewed my WP for 1 year with no problem.
Appears I have to have a non-b. Converting from Non-Imm to another type is not allowed.
After some research seems these are my options.

Convert my reason for stay from work to retirement. Appears that conversion won't work with a Non-ED.

Do a border bounce and get a visa exempt and convert to a Non-B or Non-O in country. The two available options on that is working for a company or limited partnership. Or for working as a teacher.
Documentation required for either appears to be complicated.

My university contract is Oct 1 to Sept 24 next year. Not sure if I leave the country prior to expiration Sept 30 this year if immigration needs to be notified. I may need an agent to guide me through this. ????

I think he means that he entered on a non-ED and then has extended that annually on the basis of employment for the last 30 years.

I'd be extremely surprised if he's beed getting extensions based on studying for the last 30 years.

Do you mean the TM7? Just use a pen and change it.

No.  It's a document the university generates requesting to extend my permission of stay.  Any changes to it has to be through the uni system.  So far they said it can't be done as it is part of the new system that automatically produces the documents needed for immigration.

Couldn't you or anyone else just type that whole document manually (making a copy of sorts), with just that one bit changed, and have it signed by whoever needs to sign it? I understand that the process can't be changed, but can it be circumvented?

Would be quite an effort to get a new visa otherwise.

This is an issue with the way the university's system works, not a consequence of Immigration rules. If you are not able just to submit a TM7 form to Immigration with the necessary supporting documents for an extension based on working, then I am not sure what to suggest.
