Trump calls for store robbers to be shot in speech to California Republicans

Former president and frontrunner for GOP nomination also warns ‘this country will die’ if Joe Biden wins election

Donald Trump called for shooting store robbers on Friday in a bleak speech to California Republicans –and warned “this country will die!” if Joe Biden remained president.

During the address to GOP members, Trump also railed that wealthy Beverly Hills residents smell because of water denials, and repeated election fraud lies, according to the Associated Press.

“We will immediately stop all of the pillaging and theft. Very simply: If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store,” Trump said, spurring applause. “Shot!”

The rhetoric is in keeping with Trump’s tough-on-crime mantra but signified a ramped up emphasis on punishment. Trump has previously pitched shooting migrants to keep them from entering the US.

The former defense secretary Mark Esper has said that Trump asked about shooting George Floyd protesters. He also floated imposing the death penalty on convicted drug dealers, cop-killers and human traffickers, AP said.

Several other GOP presidential hopefuls also attended the event. It is unlikely that California voters will pick a Republican during the general election, but any GOP candidate that triumphs in this state’s primary sees an easier path to the nomination.

California has 169 delegates up for grabs and a novel change in rules could give Trump, who is leading the GOP pack, a leg up. Under this new rule, Trump would take each of California’s delegates should he garner more than 50% of its primary vote, AP explained.

God help anyone who accidentically walks out of a store without paying, in Trump's America.

Sleep in the bed you make!

Wow.  Last time I heard a call to shoot looters it was Richard J Daley of Chicago.  A Democrat, in response to the 1968 Summer of Love.  (Though we hadn't evolved enough by 1968 to realize that looting, burning up cars and tearing down buildings was mostly peaceful)

Seemed to work, as Chicago riots pretty much stopped, and didn't get nearly as bad as some other cities.  I was living there at the time.  Wouldn't go back there to live today.

Edit:  Though I'd clarify, unlike Trump who just said "If you rob a store, you can fully expect to be shot as you are leaving that store,”  Mayor Daley actually ordered Chicago cops to shoot looters.

I have no problem being tough on criminals that are caught red handed in a robbery. Saves the cost of a trial and jail time.

Trump belongs to the same group he wants to be shot. Look at his economic history.

Then go on and start with him - no real loss for the USA and the world.

I would suggest that fraud and rape are virtually the same as theft.

You are taking something that doesn't rightfully belong to you, either by deceit or force.

Seems paradoxical that a proven fraudster and rapist would promote shooting for theft.

He might not have said ‘store’, ‘robbers’ or ‘shot’.

He was slurring so badly it’s difficult to understand what he was rambling on about.

Unlike Biden, who spoke with perfect diction as he accidentally referred to yet another black celebrity as "that boy".  LL Cool J in the most recent case.

What do we really know about the uber-choreographed and carefully scripted politicians?

Until they make repeated Freudian slips.  Like referring to Black guys as "boy".  And not just once.

I've worked at places in Texas where that would get you fired...  And that's Texas.

And are you sure you wanna get into the racial history of the Democrat party?

A certain element in the US began amassing guns when Obama was president.  Every few weeks someone on the right would exclaim "he's coming for your guns!" and by the following Monday stores that sell firearms would have empty shelves.  Eight years of that.  That's a lot of people with a lot of guns and they are just waiting for a chance to use them, so statements like this go over well.

I suspect DT thought the armed uprising would have followed his indictments.  I guess it could be said they may be dumb enough to believe his lies and gaslighting but are smart enough to see how 1/6 seditionists are being sent to jail, and how they were not pardoned by the orange guy when he was still in the WH.  There may also be enough smarts to understand that shooting puts themselves in danger of being shot.  There may even be enough sense (collectively) to know they are no match for organized law enforcement and the military.  Well, when they are not cowering in a hallway, like those fine Texas lawmen in Uvalde.

Let's never forget that the Democrat party was the party that supported slavery. Lincoln was a Republican, I believe.

During the 19th century the party supported or tolerated slavery, and it opposed civil rights reforms after the American Civil War in order to retain the support of Southern voters.

Never forget that the much exalted Founding Fathers institutionalized slavery in the US Constitution.

We've moved on.  Let's deal with what people are doing now.

We have anti riot bean bag loads etc, you blast the first round of the looters with some and I guarantee y'all this chaos will start sorting itself out.

I'd recommend also copious amounts of rounds down there on the porous southern border.

We are absolutely sick of this.

The forces of law and order. Criminals just use ordinary bullets that kill people.

A bean bag in the face would certainly make a rioter think twice before burning other people's property.

Ahhh you’re not an American remember?not that I condone shoplifting but shot on site is a bit harsh how’s about crucifixion then killing their first born?I know we can amputate a hand?all a bit harsh.on a serious note perhaps the organized gangs when caught could be charged and tryed under the reco standard for organized crime.all that aside extra judicial killings will not be tolerated.

So now you're speaking for others.

Your explanation doesn't answer the question though.

I think the definition of "shoplifting" is shifting from what I understood. Back when I was a kid, "shoplifting" meant sneakily lifting a chocolate bar or a pack of gum from a shop.  It did NOT mean breaking the windows/doors, trashing the place, and stealing bags full of merchandise.

I equate what is happening in many American cities to home invasions more than anything. The casual and wanton destruction of property for no purpose, the terrorizing of shop owners and their families, it goes beyond simple theft.  In these cases, I think that business owners have the right to defend their businesses as if they were defending their homes. That is, use deadly force if necessary to repel the invaders.

FAFO would give some pause to the looters and vandals who assume they can get away with such wanton anti-social behavior.
