nana kid
After Jan 1 will a U.S. Visa holder, with a Thai Retirement Visa, need a Schengen Visa to go to Europe ? ie will the Thai Visa have any effect
KhunBENQ
Heavily misplaced thread and confusing. Why would Schengen rules care about visas for other countries? Or did I miss something? Why not simply state what your nationality is? Edited October 2, 2023 by KhunBENQ

khunjeff
Holding a visa for Thailand has no effect on European entry requirements. Whether you need a Schengen visa will depend on your nationality - if you're a US citizen (not clear from your post), you can enter the Schengen area without a visa. There were plans to institute a mandatory online pre-registration system for visa-exempt travelers to Europe in 2024, but that's now been postponed until mid-2025 at the earliest.

Red Phoenix
@khunjeff provided the answer to your query. Don't forget to get hold of a Re-Entry Permit to protect your current Permission to stay, when exiting Thailand for your Europe trip.

Grateful for a link confirming this, please. The official EU website is still saying that ETIAS will be introduced some time in 2024: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en

The official EU website is still saying that ETIAS will be introduced some time in 2024: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en @khunjeff - have now come across this unofficial link following some Googling: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/no-etias-wont-become-operational-in-2024-eu-sources-say/ The $64,000 question, of course, is whether the EU will get round to lifting its collective finger in order to update its official website any time before May 2025 (or even before they may subsequently feel sufficiently energised as to inflict ETIAS on third country nationals). An all-too-familiar example in my experience of the EU proceeding at a pace which makes a tortoise look like Speedy Gonzales!????
