BANGKOK (NNT) - At the ESG Symposium 2023, part of the Sustainability Expo 2023, discussions highlighted Thailand’s shift towards a low-carbon society. Emphasis was placed on implementing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategies to support the country’s sustainability objectives and align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin underscored the significant financial measures, amounting to over 450 billion baht, aimed at green economy investments and the Thailand Green Taxonomy. Such measures aim to bolster sustainable investments, garnering a positive reception from the Thai business sector. Over 100 companies nationwide, under the Global Compact Network Thailand, are committed to investing 1.6 trillion baht by 2030 in businesses associated with SDGs.

Thailand’s sustainable development approach centers around its citizens, focusing on inclusivity, grassroots empowerment, human rights, gender equality, and health. The nation also prioritizes cross-level collaboration in addressing climate change, ensuring affordable and reliable access to clean energy by 2030.

Wat a joke... They can't even take the black smoke cars from the roads in all these years. Start with cleaning the car park. Get rid of all cars older than 25years and stop selling petrol cars but only electric ones. O sorry this  is all a misunderstanding

If only this meant "low plastic".

I would imagine that the only way that Thailand can possibly become a low carbon country would be either only allow in carbon free planes or electric only ones  or peddle power ones. - or only allow in say a million tourists a year  The planes coming with money spending tourists is probably putting out more carbon than they can possibly save on. Thailand is probably one of the biggest emitters of carbon if planes coming here are counted !

Talk is cheap ...

This guy sure loves to make speeches.

Before making statements like this, they have to Highlight stopping all the Backyard Plastic burning and Roadside Trash burning

When politicians talk, they really should be standing next to a toilet ... ????

Except during harvest time.

Utter nonsense from Srettha. As others have pointed out, you can't stop farmers buying fields, can't stop wagons churning out thick black smoke, can't stop ancient pick ups during oil every time they change gear....

Without a functioning police force, you cannot implement any changes here in Thailand.

One a more controversial note. I do wonder why Thailand signs top to any of these climate change initiatives. They are costly and damaging to Thailand's economy. The first world, US, UK and Germany caused the deterioration in climate, let them pay for it via reparations. Then they start moving all the filthy industries like  steel making et al to China so they simply change the source of the pollutions while their consumers carry on polluting. The Third world need a leader like India to tell the west to go to hell with their climate change crap....it's difficult for China to take the lead as they are profiting vastly from EV vehicles.
