I am starting to grow dog mai Mangos & was wondering what type of fertilizer to use on 2 ft tall trees & the pitfalls of bugs & how to safeguard against natures pests.

The advice I was given was to not give any fertilser for the first month,

this is to encourage the roots to grow & not lots of greenery,

after that, cow shit.
